I‘m pretty sure I‘m Aromantic

Recommended Posts

I don‘t even know where to start, haha.

Since quite some time I wondered why I never felt really comfortable, when I was in a relationship. I always felt affection for my partners, also sexual attraction, but I never experienced what other people would call 'falling in love‘.

And even when I had boyfriends in the past, I never had a crush on them.

Also things like marriage or having a baby do nothing for me. And if I see myself in the future, I don‘t see myself in a romantic relationship.

When I first realized that I might be aromantic, I was shocked. Because you think „oh god, I will never experience love?“. But there are different kind of loves and even if I don‘t might love in a romantic way, I still love my family, friends and myself. I‘m happy the way I am.

And this is absolutely valid!

I'm not too sure myself, it takes a while, doesn't it?

Yes, it took me while to acknowledge it. I knew that aromantic people exist, but I didn‘t want to believe that it could apply to me. Since everyone tells you, that falling in love is the best thing that can happen to you and how do you explain others, that you can’t love in a romantic way?

But the more I accepted what I am and that I‘m also happy with platonic relationships and the kind of love I feel, it was okay for me.

I'm bi-romantic gray-asexual. I used to be worried why I could feel attraction towards others and liked dating, cuddles, hand-holding and all that but didn't feel comfortable being physical - like, anything more than kissing felt like an irritating annoyance, something to endure to keep a relationship. Thing is now it is hard to really find a steady partner, but I am so much more at peace with myself.

Romantic love is overrated. There's several types of love and even for romantic people it shouldn't be the end goal.

That’s really really kind of you to say. I needed to hear that, at the moment, I am absolutely asexual and possibly aromantic. It’s just that part of me wants a lifelong, meaningful relationship but everyone around me tells me that only romantic relationships are like that which makes me sad...

I feel exactly the same. I like my boy friend in a "best-friend" sort of a way.. I don't think I'm capable of falling in love though. Not sure he'd be happy hearing this lol
