I cannot stress enough how much I despise k-netz culture

The second someone is individualistic and not following their rigid societal norms where you act like robots they flip the fuck out on you. So fucking toxic. It's so weird to see celebs out there who would be considered normal in western standards considered to be like freaks. I like kpop. Gives me some guilty pleasure bops, and I love looking at the stage outfits for loose inspiration. But I fucking hate the culture dude. Let these people breathe. It sucks to see how the idols that I admired for challenging Korea's ideas for acceptable go like this.

R.I.P Sulli

and R.I.P Jonghyun

fuck anybody and I mean anybody who has ever hated on someone for not being "normal" The weird people are the ones who are infinitely cooler than anybody that just tries to "fit in"

Yeah it's bad. But we have to take a wider look and realize that it's not just them. Literally every aspect of kpop culture/fandom is driving this engine of hate, and international fans are just as bad. Even if it's not directly hating on groups, it's creating an overly competitive culture in which the personal freedom and self esteem of the idols isn't valued, where managers etc are overworked, and where fans are often treated badly.

I entered kpop in 2009, never got into any fandom, and never will, I hate those masses of idiots that worship a group A and hate group B, cause they feel it is a threat to their holy cow group. I just like to listen to my girl group songs. Idols are not at war with each other as the fandoms portray. They are just making their living doing what they know, sing and dance.

I completely agree. International fans also need to look at themselves. I've seen so many comments saying TOP should have died just because he's being himself (and his scandal) and they are the ones to advocate for mental health awareness in Korea. Some of them act like they are holier than thou but they are the ones that also spread the hate.

The idol culture is an unhealthy culture.

Even Super Junior is realizing they need to appreciate their  managers more after a couple of them acted as a manager to a couple of members

I pulled away from this shit after the TOP thing, and I cut myself off from it after Jonghyun died, I had to do it to keep myself sane. It’s kind of isolated and insular — but I’m not exposed to shit that just drives me insane.

Dunno how skewed is our view of knet commenters with those sites translating it for us. For my experience, it's horrible, but other places aren't much better. We see xenophobia there, but again we have to assume they aren't expect people from other nations to read that. I check comments from people from other countries talking about their own issues and they also exhibit similar uncompromising xenophobic/racist comments.

Being exposed to this in kpop sites seem not healthy. Just assuming similar awfulness should be enough. If you check celebrity related sites everywhere, it's not that much different. It's vile and toxic and that's why I avoid it. However, visiting here and have easy access to these comments don't see healthy. I personally trying to avoid it as much as possible for now on.

Some things may be uniquely awful from knets, but again I can say the same to every other insert country-netizens. They all have uniquely awful things about them.

Internet comments about celebrities in general can be really toxic but yeah,  it feels like in Korea they have an extra layer of it because of the ridiculous expectations of perfection. You can't date, you can't drink, if you get PS you get hate and get hate if you doesn't, you have to take abuse from your seniors just because they are older than you, is contractually obligated to follow strict diets, work in terrible conditions and long hours... it's just too much.

That said, in Sulli's case strangely enough my mind went straight to the fact she started in this industry too young. It seems like she had this celebrity life thrown at her when she was at an age she couldn´t possibly understand what it meant. This is a serious problem with the idol industry (although I know she started off as an actress) in general. These kids main occupation should be studying, hanging out with friends... not being the breadwinner of their families.

after Jonghyun died, my activeness in the stan world went down to hugely, recently started to be active again but now i might just stop altogether because people never learn. And if you even TRY to call them out on being dicks its all "well this (insert fandom name here) did this too!!!" as if everyone doing it means its okay and its not!, everyone needs to stop, everyone needs to watch what they say about these idols , actors/actress, models, all of them. they see more than we realize.

Exactly, this is why I have issues with these kids debuting into the industry so young. It's so toxic and vile. The amount of impact it can have on someone who's still growing and learning can really be traumatic and scarring.
