Awkward Love Situation

So theres this guy in my class that I'm interested in getting to know  better but I'm pretty shy and don't know how to keep the conversation going. I managed to get his number because I asked for some help on a homework assignment but I kinda wasted that opportunity to ask for help because I didn't  know what to ask lol and there's probably not another homework assignment til another 3 weeks. Sooooo I don't know what to do or say the next time I see him. 

Kinda afraid that he might reject me or that he has a girlfriend  which I'll respect if that happens lol 

I'm so awkward lol I don't know how to handle this situation

Talk about something in that class with him, or ask him how he did on his homework assignment. Go from there. Or you can just be straightforward and ask him, it's not the end of the world.

Why don't you just try to start a simple conversation with him? Ask him how is he doing, and try talking something about the school- and see where your conversation with him leads you both to. What do you know, maybe it may spark more subjects outside of the "school" and you can find yourself sharing the same interests. Try to make small steps

Try and make conversation everyday, even if it's about something silly, then gradually you'll become friends and hopefully something more?
