"Everyone around the world thinks Kpop is all about BTS."

Phil Quartararo, American music executive (Virgin Records, Warner Bros, & EMI), was at Mu:Con and talked about BTS and Kpop. He said, “There’s good news and bad news about BTS' success. BTS can fill up the Rose Bowl in LA and sells many albums. They made good songs and built a good relationship with their fans. I hope everyone here doesn’t devalue that. It’s something to be proud of. However, what’s worrisome is that everyone around the world thinks Kpop is all about BTS. We have to make sure those stereotypes don’t form. BTS have opened the doors to the land of Kpop, so we have to let people know of other groups beyond them. In the future, there must also be more famous Kpop artists. We need to make Kpop not just a one-off wave, but a trend and a new beginning.”

"BTS is a great success story. But BTS broke the ice; it is not the ice," Phil Quartararo, CEO of Tripod Partners, said in a press conference on the sidelines of MU:CON, the biggest K-pop fair in South Korea.

"For BTS, it was opening the door. We can send a lot more behind BTS ... I believe there will be plenty of other opportunities for big artists that command this market very, very well," he said.

According to Quartararo, K-pop in general develops music's three core elements -- rhythm, melody and harmony -- very well, fascinating the fan-driven U.S. pop market better than other genres like EDM, hip hop or Latin.

"The fact that makes K-pop rave, it's not that it's Korean or it's pop. It works because it's good," he said, adding that "I hope to see not only K-pop ... but also K-rock and K-country."

"As long as these [K-pop] companies continue to produce quality, hit music, you will always remain competitive ... there's no constraints on what K-pop can do or should do," he added.

I have already ranted on Twitter lol.

That is not bad news for BTS it's bad news for them. They wanna make money.

How many articles written by Western media try to involve BTS even when they are not related. Y'all played yourselves.

The door is wide open. Army are not required to carry the entire kpop industry. A lot of us are here for BTS 💜

It's not the whole world, it's just America. And I hope it stays that way, I don't want other groups to start releasing basic american songs just to appease the american market.

It's a lot of the world, including America. Let's not get it twisted. A worldwide Stadium tour speaks for itself.

As for the second part of your comment, I am sure you will be seeing a lot of that with all the new debuts and signing with American labels. I'm just glad the pioneers aka BTS did it while being true to themselves and making good music :)

....everyone around the world thinks Kpop is all about BTS.

So...I am in alternative universe?

Joke aside, bts is not the only thing everyone (non kpop fans) around the world thinks about kpop although it's probably? the majority? It may be bad for bts if other group(s) did something not good, and confused and clickbaiting people think it's bts just because they're "kpop group."

I love this idea that somehow theres some force actually stopping these said groups  to achieve what BTS has for now. The only thing stopping them is the obvious lack of interest coming from the public. At this point its clear that BTS success has nothing to do with some kind of kpop wave, it has to do with... BTS.

Forcing stuff will never work. Put money behind it, promote the shit out of it but ppl can see the bullshit in the end. The spark will die down as fast as it lit up. You need something genuine, that takes time to build but i guess, no one has the patience for it when they have money-eyes.
