Some Sistar questions...

What is the point of this group? Is it like a Destiny's Child situation where it's a launch pad for Hyorin?

Why didn't they just debut her as a soloist?

Are there plans to debut her as a soloist?

Have the other girls commented on being Hyorin's background?

How come they haven't debuted in Japan like everyone else and their mom?

They don't want to go to Japan. Soyou has said that she is content with her role as the lead vocalist. Plans of a solo debut for Hyorin are not in the works (as far as I know). Both Hyorin and Soyou have said having a solo album would be nice, but they want to work on SISTAR first. Also, the hate on SISTAR is getting ridiculous. Where were you all when they first debuted? lol, it wasn't until they got popular that people started flaming them.

I have heard it said (I don't know where this emerged) that they were considering her for a solo career but weren't sure about her dancing (but she's lead dancer????) and I guess girlgroups seemed popular, so... I mean, Dasom apparently signed up to be an actress but got drafted into Sistar, and she didn't get to do any acting until 2012 or something.

Wasn't that kind of smart of them, though?  Not that they have a huge fanbase in SK or anything, but they built themselves up nicely without even overworking themselves, or so it seems....

That's what happens. If you're a nugu group and no1 gives a fk about you, then nobody asks questions and just let's them do whatever. Once that group gets more popular, then that's when people actually take notice of them and starts asking questions.

There weren't many popular idol soloists when Sistar debuted

Wasn't IU out?

They arent kawaii enough for Japan, desu.

KPop girl groups aren't meant to be kawaii. They appeal to a different demographic that J-idol girl groups.

Starship already said hyorin's was only a good singer and that's it, that's why they put her in a group. They have sistar 19 and maybe a Soyu dasom duet

Isn't that enough? Don't Koreans thing she's pretty? Or is she too dark?

When did they debut? My time spent on KPop has waned since like 2010.

I mean since they wanted an idol and not a ballad singer she would have to know how to dance and she didnt know how to dance but she's a good dancer now, but that would be fucked up if they just dropped the rest of them.

i'm just gonna answer based on my opinion since i don't really know much about Sistar except for their songs.

although Hyorin is a great singer, i doubt she'll be as successful as the current Sistar if she debuted as a solo artist. like what some posters have already said, she is lacking in the looks department. i'm not saying she isn't beautiful but she doesn't have that traditional Korean pretty face ala Yoona/IU. plus, girl groups are more marketable than soloists at that time. although IU was already around, it wasn't until December of 2010 when she hit it big with Good Day. G.Na also only debuted a month after Sistar's debut which was June of 2010. it was not until last year when Korea had a bunch of debuts of female soloists like Ailee, Juniel, Lee Hi, etc. some of the reasons for this i think are the over-saturation of idol groups in the market, and the popularity of singing shows like Immortal Song & I Am a Singer and talent shows like K-Pop Star.

i also don't think Sistar is just a launch pad for Hyorin's career. it just so happened that Korea loved her voice and tbh, i couldn't blame them. it's not like Soyou, the second best singer in the group, gets shafted in favor of Hyorin. sans Hyorins adlibs, Soyou actually has the most solo lines in Loving U and Give It To Me. Bora is also actually pretty popular to the public so it's not like Hyorin's the only one in the spotlight.

i'm also glad Sistar isn't trying to break into the Japanese market like many K-Pop acts do nowadays. the company is smart enough to solidify Sistar's status in their homeland first. Sistar needs to develop a bigger fanbase so that they aren't in danger when in the future, they aren't the 'it' girl group any more.

People are always complaining that no one in a group can sing well, but when they actually have a really good main vocalist people wonder why she isn't a solo artist. If you want good singers in groups, you can't make them all go solo  :wth:

Or you could have a group of all good singers.
