ArticleWhy are the BTS fans 'Armies' studying the May 18th Gwangju uprising

1. [+557, -52] How far will the positive influence of BTS reach? It's so amazing. Everything about them is world class!

2. [+515, -48] They have such a proper understanding of history, so proud!!!!!

3. [+499, -37] History is something that even a country's own people could not know no matter how much it's taught... It's amazing that foreigners are even looking up our country's history. Give credit where it's due.

4. [+44, -6] This is what RM was talking about with the power of culture

5. [+36, -5] As someone from Gwangju, I'm really grateful ㅜㅜ there are so many old farts trying to rile up communist mobs lately...

6. [+32, -5] As exected of Armies ðŸ‘

7. [+27, -2] No wonder Ilbe has been attacking them lately..

8. [+24, -5] There is such a big diversity of Armies now, BTS and their fans cannot be touched. They are the future voters of this country, and the government should be careful.

9. [+20, -3] BTS needs to be exempted from the army ㅜㅜ I saw foreigners singing along to all their Korean songs

10. [+20, -1] So great to see a group spread their influence in such positive ways

THIS

I hope young people would take things like this,

It is what makes us human, the culture. Not the power of guns/weapons.

If every human can have accessibility of education and health, we would be somewhere else now!

Oh yeah, 062- 518I actually learned about Gwangju Democratization Movement from Ma City, one of my fav songs to this day. Suga also produced a song about this subject, long ago, when he was an underground rapper.

I'm always amazed by how this cultural influence spread in the fandom. You can really see and feel it inside the fandom, and it's not just happening when bts become big, but since they debut, or even predebut, there is always something to learn from them and their music.

Yep, through the power of pop culture millions of fans get exposed to and interested in world history! I've learned some stuff about china through the chinese pop culture too :D

Unpopular opinion but I kinda miss this kind of lyrics from Bts. their old lyrics were more bold and political than they are now.

I get that they have to be more careful with words now that they're so huge and people can twist the words to harm them.

I just hope they will pay them no mind and keep releasing more educational songs like this in the future smile.png

The massacre of gwangju was one of the worst tragedies in our nation's history. Considering all the terrible stuff that happened then there's still many people whom were effected families as well whom never came forward for reparations considering the fear that being registered and known could have a repeat of the past later. Now thinking about BTS J hope is from gwangju it would not surprise me if his family name isn't his real name, almost everyone from gwangju at least knew someone effected by it,and afterwards many people did anything and everything to protect themselves. So it wouldn't surprise me at all if his family changed his name to ensure none can trace his family name back to the past.
