Am I the only one who is starting to think US celebrities are doing this for clout?

I feel like nowadays, I see US celebrities starting to tweet about and rave about kpop idols who are starting to make it big in America like BTS And BlackPink. And precaution, yes I know this is beneficial for both BTS/Blackpink and the celebrity so who cares in the end. And yes I know , Kpop isn't exclusive, anyone can get into it if they're a celebrity.

that said, I dont' know, it just makes me feel like some of the interactions may be fake? like we didn't see this type of praise happen before when BTS for example went to the grammy's for the first time? Basically, I feel like a lot of celebrities (NOT ALL celebrities AND NOT MANY, i'm not going to saynames) are starting to like them because they're famous?? this of course, happens in any industry  (example such as sejeong having her juniors not greeting her after IOI)

and again,  just to be clear, I dont' think it's the worst thing in the world for BTS and Blackpink, it's actually beneficial. it just makes me think some of the interactions may be really artificial if that makes sense? in the end it's how the industry works, people want to be close to you because you're famous if you get what i mean??

im just wondering if it's just me who sort of feels this way???  i may get negged for this but whatever.  I guess this happens whenever you become famous, it's just something i fel?

Oh they're very highkey doing it for clout.  It's so easy to just say "yeah, I like them," and maybe follow them on social media.  Just by doing that, THOUSANDS of people across twitter.com are praising you for appreciating BTS oppas or Black Pink unnies.  It's the easiest way to get attention ever.

The only celebrity who I think is genuinely a Kpop stan is Emma Stone because she was talking about her love for Kpop before Kpop even blew up in the US.

Where have you been? BTS got attention during their 1st bbma & more at the amas. BTS probably know who are fake or genuine and how to navigate among them. It's up to fans (individually) to decide whether to hype it or not, but they shouldn't be speaking for BTS or Blackpink. You don't like a certain celebrity, ignore and move on. The last you want to do is gatekeep and burn bridges.

Oh no, you're definitely not the only one. I think a good fraction or a majority of reasonable fans from these groups aforementioned are too. I'm not a dedicated fan of either groups anymore (though my male KPOP ultimate bias is from one of these groups), but I get pretty cynical whenever a popular Western celebrity mentions BTS or associates themselves with BTS along the lines-it's like they're using BTS as a gateway of increasing fame for their own self-interest.

the point of my post wasn't saying it doesn't help bts and i def knew that got attention during the bbma, i just forgot the name of the award show they appeared on in 2015/2016, my bad

it's just a observation i have, it's not like it's bad for blackpink and bts as i said before, it's beneficial if anything and i'm sure they know about it

No

BTS seems to only collabs with their friends tho, that makes me feel better about their collabs and want to support the artists they collab with.

Also, collabs are a trend now, artists collab with each other to get more fanbase I guess, BTS has a big fanbase and global attention (not only in US) so I guess people will offer a lot of collabs to them.

Well, on the other hand, to be fair, it's very possible to not even be aware of someone's existence until they become famous. It's not necessarily an intentional 'I'm shunning you unless you're popular.' I'm not naive to the extent that I think this is always the case, but I'm also not naive enough to boil every interaction down to 'clout chasing.'

Some people can be superficial and self-serving, and some people are genuine in their interactions. That's just humans. No doubt our faves encounter that kind of thing both in and outside Korea.

I'm surprised you even have to ask if you're the only one who thinks this, though; I've seen a lot of people say the same thing as you.

nope, saw a tweet where someone said

"I feel like a lot of celebrities, musicians and publications are latching onto Korean artists. Not because they appreciate the artistry but they know the minute they tweet about them they’ll go viral. It’s very interesting."

and honestly a major rt

Nope I agree. Some people who tweet about bts are just doing it for the retweets. I'm sure others are intrigued. But the ones that put every sort of hashtag in the tweet.. it's pretty obvious

I trust BTS knows what they are doing. I ignore celebrities I don't like.

I would also add some these western artists are already big and have a fandom. I would worry more about the ones who are in the same boat as BTS and need a boost. I'm speaking in general.
