What do you think about the new version of Aladdin's "A whole new world" with Zayn?

As a Zayn stan (he was my ultimate bias in 1D back in the One Direction days), I loved his parts in the song and they were honestly my favorite parts (though I think they can chill with the autotune just a bit (I can hear a little bit in the song, no offense or anything), but at least it didn't ruin anything for me). Honestly, no offense or anything, but iirc, Jasmine, in the original song, was more high-pitched in voice (like a light lyric soprano voice), so while I like the girl's voice (she sounds like a mezzo or a heavier soprano to me), I think it would be better off with another female singer with a way lighter voice (like Ariana Grande for instance-just to get an idea) as a contrast to Zayn's masculine voice (which is similar to EXO DO's voice (these two are among my favorite voices in general) IMO) and better oriented to the original.

Compared to the old "mainstream" version by Peabo Bryson/Regina Bell its not as far off. The female singer in this version doesn't fit at all tho

They both have nice voices and all but are missing this Disney, magical sounding quality that the original had. I like Zayns voice but I hate the phrasing and stylist choices done, like when does this moaning like thing at the beginning of lines. I just think this song sound so much better with clear, concise phrasing and enunciation. Making it sound like a more modern pop song ruins it for me, personally.

I was really confused in the beginning because his tone made me think it was supposed to be a sad song.

I liked the instrumentals at the beginning and the end but the rest of it fell flat for me and lacked any spark or Disney magic that most of their songs, even their “pop†renditions have. Zayn’s vocals are amazing as always but the female vocalist, Zhavia’s voice and singing style don’t suit the song at all.

 

I’ll wait and see how Naomi and Mena’s version of the song turns out in the movie.
