I'm surprised to find that some of your families are supportive if you're not comfortable to fast

Yup, I'm glad that I'm not Muslim even if I live in Muslim majority country.

If that person convicted in certain provinces, the person will have fine of 1000.00 or six months jail or both

This makes me so mad. Ramadan is time between individuals and Allah. Why tf should anyone else care about who is and isn’t fasting??? Worry about YOURSELF

Well for me Islam has always been about yourself and how you abide to those rules not about how families or societies think of you. Rules and exceptions are clear. The society is much more open minded nowadays because if you tell them you are sick then it is okay to not fast. You should know yourself whether you are capable or not to fast, and God knows it too. So if you cant fast then just break the fast, but if you break it when you know you are capable than that is on you. You carry your own sins. Just dont eat infront of people, have empathy as a muslim, be mindful of other muslims who are fasting and cant eat. Avoid tempting others so that their fast wil be more at ease.

Malaysia, smack right in the middle of Southeast Asia

Ouh I just read the thread replies, I'm a Malaysian Muslim btw. And I am goona reply this as my own perspective as Malaysian Muslim.

I didnt even know those fines exist. Most Malaysians probably dont know or maybe people around me never eat openly in ramadhan to get those fines. Those fines are there maybe because eating in the open in a muslim majority country, can be taken as ridiculing Islam in open (this is just my opinion). Just to put in another perspective or analogy, what would a hindu man feels if another hindu man eating beef like it is nothing in front of him. It is the same kind of feeling, ridiculing religion especially in the holy month when it is so easy to fast because all people around you are fasting. But you know if a muslim dont want to practice, he can just eat in places that is not so open(there are places to go to) or blend in as a non muslim in a places that non muslims usually eat.

It is acceptable if you break fast because you are sick or not capable to do it. I still think every person carry their own sins but tbh it is annoying to see someone does that(eating when he is capable to fast or just because he doesnt want to) in Ramadhan because it is as if you are ridiculing the holy month and the religion.

I do agree Malaysia is a pain country to live in if you dont want to practice as one while still retaining that muslim name/faith, however it is a safe place to live as a practising muslim. Other places is hard to live as a practising one because of the country rules and society too. So yeah it depends on the country. Most countries which has no majority muslims, Islam is only as self enforce rules in individuals, it comes within the individuals to follow it. However since Malaysia has majority muslims is why they can enforce some rules for lesson or prevention for those action.

To people who thinks religion is oppressive, to each their own, my religion is my belief and your belief is yours.
