Why some Japanese become KPop idols

Someone posted this on Arama last night:

One of Matsuko Deluxe’s programs profiled a dance and singing school in Japan that trains K-pop hopefuls a while back. They asked the (all Japanese) students why they were aiming to join a K-pop grp rather than J-pop like AKB48. The answers were interesting.
They said that to be a success as a Jpop group member it wasn’t enough to just be able to dance and sing and be pretty. You also had to be witty and charming without a script to get noticed at all. In other words, it was much tougher for someone who just wanted to sing&dance.
In other words, someone like Rino Sashihara, who just “graduated“ from AKB48 and is very good on chat and variety shows, is the ideal Jpop girl these days.
Not everyone is good at that kind of thing though or even wants to do it, so they aim for Kpop groups where they “just†need to dance, sing and look good.

It's true, but it wasn't always this way honestly. Older gen kpop groups are pretty entertaining when it comes to variety (suju, shinhwa, snsd) but newer ones lack in that way.

I really can't think of ONE kpop group that I feel is genuinely fun to watch outside of performances other than BTS

Interesting insight. I had always thought that because of how the Japanese market was so very self-contained that some of these jpn trainees wanted to spread their wings and see how far they can go globally. But then again, I guess everyone has their own reasons for doing what they do.

But who will have a longer career? There are idols in their 40s in Japan.

yeah, in men's case. this segment was about girls.

it's not wonder girls flock to kpop. akb is not what used to be and even akb members from golden era are barely relevant. just look at takahashi minami who amassed over 130 k votes in 2015 and one year ago she made headlines bc she couldn't sell out venues with 500 capacity. and girl's just 28.

J and C entertainment make gain more money but kpop give global recognition of a lot of fans around the world.

J and C teens who prefer debut in kpop want global fame.

Because SK is like the mayor leagues of pop trainning atm, it's like makimg a degree... despite sex trafficking, corruption, poorly conditions, they just see the glitter because youth

All entertainment around the world is a mess.

If you hate SK go to stan Indio Solari or Paulo Londra.

It didn't say anything about the gender of trainees. It used Rino as an example. The same can be said about every relevant male idol as well, even more so. Maybe they don't want to host a news show or be in movies?
