Wow that's fast

It seem they learn from nine percent mistakes

Sadly 9% can’t relate

iqiyi is a lot wiser now after everything that happened with 9% lol

kinda sad but a part of me had always known that npc was meant to be a test subject

iqiyi knows they only have 3 months to establish UNINE firmly in the scene. They have to do something fast. Last year NPC didn't really have that many rivals except for TFBOYS and other groups from Idol Producer. This year besides groups from QCYN, there are also BlackACE and New Storm from All For One (with BA gaining popularity despite being from a less hype show), WayV are redebuting with certain members already involved as regulars on varieties, and UNINE's biggest competition as a rookie group will debut in 3 months.

Currently there are only around 20k users who are buying the EP, and some fanbases are buying in the tens of thousands. So basically they're still relying only on their fans and not much general public support yet. Hopefully they can establish themselves fast since they only have 3 months before Produce Camp winning team debut.

You have a point. Last year 9% barely had competition aside from other IP groups (that obviously weren’t as popular as them) while this year you have 4 winning groups from 3 different survival shows. Idk how PC is doing in comparison with QCYN (in terms of GP recognition/ratings) but it’s obvious they’ll sell well. Zhou Zhennan alone has a load of fans that will buy the album.

NPC also has members who have strong individual fanbases (which later developed into all members getting individually popular), and there's also the Yuehua-hijacking-Yuehua3-factor, so getting them together as a group becomes harder.

As for PC, the show is definitely doing better than QCYN at the moment. PC also has more trending trainees. While QCYN only has Wenhan (and later on Jia Yi thanks to the stage with Jolin), Zhennan trends from the beginning, then Zhang Yuan, the controversy surrounding Gao Hanyu vs Zhennan also makes the show noticeable, and lately Cnet are loving Zhang Yanqi. But IMO Tencent might shoot themsleves in the foot if they focus too much on capitalizing Zhennan's popularity, because the poor boy is getting hate kinda like how Xukun was back during IP.

IMO having stronger individual fanbases is good but only if they know how to capitalize it. Like, Rocket Girls for example they were able to sell more than 9% because of the whole “rewarding†members whose fanbases buy the most albums which iQiyi didn’t do with 9%. With UNINE on the contrary they are pushing the group more than individual members which it’s good to create more group fans but obviously their sales won’t be as high as groups that have members with strong individual fanbases or that reward members whose fanbases bulk buy the most. I think they’ll still do well though.

I asked about PC popularity because I saw that the votes for the first elimination weren’t particularly higher than QCYN votes. But yeah, i’ve heard that more members are trending. I didn’t know the Gao Hanyu vs Zhennan was a big controversy though. Saw a lot of people in twitter complaining about the favoritism towards Zhennan but it was mostly a few I-fans. How it’s doing in comparison with S1 btw?

S1 is definitely bigger since it was the only show for girls out there. Now if iqiyi has made their season 2 for girls instead, they could have capitalized more instead of putting out QCYN, which is currently being overshadowed by PC. But yeah to answer your question, PD101CN season 1 has much bigger hype. But also thanks to the controversies surrounding Meiqi vs Xuanyi (which their solo stans still carry out until now), Yang Chaoyue as well as Wang Ju.

That was my impression as well. It was the first "licensed" chinese version of produce, had well known mentors, the whole Meiqi vs Xuanyi thing, Yang Chaoyue, etc. Plus like you said, it was the first show with girls (even though in the Korean version, male seasons tend to do better. S2 was much bigger than S1/PD48 and even PDX so far had better ratings than S1/PD48 too, in the premiere at least).

IP S3 will be for girls btw. It's gonna be interesting to see if it's as big as PD101C S1 or even IP S1. I still feel nothing has topped IP S1 in general impact even if technically PD101C S1 had more votes and ratings.

I already saw rumors that next season's Produce Camp will be for girls, if true then it's girls' time soon laugh.png

But IP S3 and the next PC won't probably overlap because IP S3 will air this summer (so like in a couple of months).
