Since I know so many people look at charts and don't like rankings and spend the thread trying to derail asking where data came from so for those who like that gag go below.

 

How did I do the ranking?

 

10 Points = 1st Place

7 Points = 2nd Place

5 Points = 3rd Place

3 Points = 4th Place

1 Point = 5th Place

0.5 Points = 6th ~ 10th Place.

 

 

Where did these numbers come from?

 

These numbers for physical albums have came from 3 sources.

MIAK, Gaon, and Oricon. 

The download numbers come from 2 sources

 

Gaon and RIAJ

 

 

The numbers from streams come from 3 sources.

 

Youtube, Oricon, and Gaon. All 3 are combined and equal the total

The streams from YouTube are only counted for Official Music Videos uploaded by the company itself.

 

Are solo's, collaborations, sub units counted in this chart?

No they are not counted within this chart.

Where did you get the numbers for each group?
 

I used sources such as Sales Threads, Generasia, Gaon's website, Peppers sales thread, and Wikipedia.

How were concerts counted?

 

I've only counted completely finished Tours and Fanmeets/Showcases

Tours still ongoing wont be counted until they are finished and we get the overall number.

I will make a major update again on August and another one for December.

 

Why isn't ___ on the list?

 

 

Yes I realized last minute I missed Big Mama. But I will be making a chart

Including some other top girl groups of all generations later on so they will appear soon.

If I missed something or got a number off let me know.

I had to hand count and recheck the data for all 10 of these groups.

It is exhausting.

Digitals have dropped and recently just started rising.. Each side has their advantages

1st Gen lived in the strongest physical era.

2nd Gen lived in the strongest download era.

3rd Gen lived int the strongest Streaming era.

This is just looking at the overall.

Sounds reasonable imo. Without RIAJ SNSD would lose a few million DLs I think.

There's also international downloads (US etc) and Oricon download chart recently, but those numbers most likely wouldn't change much if anything.

My big takeaway from this is that the rise of streaming hurt downloads more than album sales. I don't think anybody would have guessed that 10 years ago.

I think Gallup and Forbes ranking should be included in determining overall success. Show awards are kinda irrelevant imo
