Writer Kim Soo Min Files Lawsuit Against Yoon Ji Oh For Defamation + Accuses Her Of Taking Advantage Of The Jang Ja Yeon Case

Apr 23, 2019 by L. Kim

Actress Yoon Ji Oh and writer Kim Soo Min are now engaged in a legal battle.

On April 23, lawyer Park Hoon, the legal representative for Kim Soo Min, filed a complaint against Yoon Ji Oh with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency in central Seoul for defamation and contempt. A number of screen captures of Kakao Talk conversations between Kim Soo Min and Yoon Ji Oh were submitted as evidence.

Writer Kim Soo Min came to know Yoon Ji Oh when she was preparing to publish her book “The 13th Testimony†(literal translation). He is claiming that Yoon Ji Oh had no close relationship with Jang Ja Yeon and that her claims of witnessing Jang Ja Yeon’s list are false. The investigation team of the Supreme Public Prosecutor’s Office, which is re-investigating the Jang Ja Yeon case, recently met Kim Soo Min and two others to hear related statements.

After submitting the lawsuit, Kim Soo Min’s lawyer, Park Hoon, said to reporters, “Yoon Ji Oh is taking advantage of the unfair death of the late Jang Ja Yeon. Yoon Ji Oh has seen nothing but Mr. Cho’s sexual harassment. She is claiming to ‘risk her life to testify’ and is receiving financial support. The Jang Ja Yeon list that Yoon Ji Oh says she saw was a document related to the investigation. The late Jang Ja Yeon never made a list. Still, Yoon Ji Oh called Kim Soo Min’s revelations a fabrication, and she has not hesitated to make extreme accusations against him.â€

Kim Soo Min’s lawyer continued, saying that in a Kakao Talk conversation with Kim Soo Min, Yoon Ji Oh said that she was never close to Jang Ja Yeon. “She claims to have seen the list after [her] statement to the truth and reconciliation committee. The death of the deceased was monopolized by someone who should not do so. And she opened an account to receive financial aid. [Kim Soo Min] had no choice but to be angry. [Yoon Ji Oh] asked Kim Soo Min tenaciously about royalties. New writers are in the 7 percent range, and Yoon Ji Oh’s contracts are with 12 percent. Kim Soo Min said, ‘It’s on the level of writer Gong Ji Young.’ There is detailed conversation about publishing rights and her talking about how she would take it all.â€

Park Hoon revealed, “We warned her several times. We told her to not get in the way of the Jang Ja Yeon case, not say anything about it, and leave the country. The next day, she replied, ‘Whatever.’ We can’t stand it anymore. Today’s complaint marks the first official issue for Yoon Ji Oh, who is taking advantage of the death of the late Jang Ja Yeon. We hope she is confidently investigated.â€

Reporter Kim Dae Oh, who first reported on the Jang Ja Yeon case and claims to have seen the late actress’s documents in person, also accompanied Park Hoon to the press. He refuted Yoon Ji Oh’s claim in “The 13th Testimony,†saying, “I’ve never seen this in the original documents.†He wrote, “Yoon Ji Oh says she saw copies of seven pages and a list of 40 to 50 names. But I can swear on my life that the list part was never in the original. She claims it was in a letter format, but it was Jun Joon Joo who created the letter format. It appeared about a year after the incident. The part that says, ‘I was forced to serve alcohol on my mother’s memorial date’ was never in any of the documents I saw. This is something the road manager of Jang Ja Yeon told the police. I don’t understand why [Yoon Ji Oh] is claiming that this content appears in the suicide note.â€

When reports emerged that writer Kim Soo Min was submitting the official complaint, Yoon Ji Oh captured a Kakao Talk conversation with someone who appears to be a reporter from a media outlet and released it on her Instagram. Yoon Ji Oh said, “Tell me the truth about them. Kim Soo Min manipulated the messages, and about lawyer Park Hoon, I don’t even have to explain. They’re not worth responding to. Neither they nor I are the ones in the spotlight. This is a re-investigation. Not a single reporter is reporting on how far the investigation has gone. They are standing by the attackers and attacking the witnesses who exist for the victims.'â€

In another post on her Instagram, Yoon Ji Oh said of Kim Soo Min, “He’s a man who lacks common sense and said he’d post my picture and reveal my identity before I [came out as the witness] myself. He caused additional damage to the victims of the incident at Isu Station, and now he’s doing the same to me because he faced no consequences the first time. I’m a witness who exists for the victim and has testified 16 times in more than a decade, so how can you question my credibility? If the police and the prosecution have investigated a liar 16 times, then you need to take it up with them. It doesn’t make sense. I’ve only met him once, and he’s got nothing to do with me, Jang Ja Yeon, or her family.â€

I didn't read the whole article. I confess it with honesty.

Why JJO would make up JJY's case? She came all the way from US, obtained extension of the legal investigations, confronted all power holders and big bosses of show biz. She can be killed or hurt anytime. For what?!

I rarely ignore articles about this issue, but this one is too much. İt triggers my anger (I want to beat shit out of that as*hole) I hope someone will make tldr post for others like me.

Thanks in advance.

it honestly doesn't make sense why the fuck she would lie and endanger her life like this

is this an attempt to take the attention away

more of an attempt to discredit her than to take attention away.  that's if the dude is lying and everything is fake like she says.

But even the writer backhandedly acknowledged that YJO actually witnessed Mr. Cho's sexual harrassment of JJY

And for a case where witnesses like YJO are important, he wants her out of the country?

They better hope that their katalk is not just abt royalty disputes but actual proof that YJO's testimony is false,

bc otherwise the writer looks real fishy rn.

What a bunch of bullshit.

Obviously, she's trying to gain money to protect herself and they're trying to prevent that from happening... hopefully they will fail.

It seems to me that they're trying to, again for the unpth time, claim that the list (of 31 names that abused JJY) and the documents she wrote claiming to be abused are fabricated, old news, that was they always tried to do so the high-ups are not invicted. Seems that she claim that in the book.

We can just add another names to the list that had sided with the money.

Just to uptdate this, I hope I'm wrong but it seems to me that the Jang Jayeon case is going to run to a wall again and this time it will kill it, because they're outside the time limit of prepscription already. They reported Yoon in the court so she has going back to Canada and the obvious suspects are starting the defamation lawsuits.

Miss Yoon already have finished her witness duty and her mother is sick with cancer, but she was trying to bring her to Korea to keep pressing and publishing the case so it will not be forgived. Again, the abusers of miss Jang try to penalize and descredit anyone trying to help (like how they did it with the manager and the one friend of Jang that made public her's abuse testimonies). I understand Yoon going back to Canada and try to live, she's already done so much.

And about the rumours to discredit her:

  • Yoon wasn't able to stablish a fundraisher until Asian Boss did it in her name, because autorities alway deny the rights for her and always closed any account with one excuse or another, I supposed that because Asian Boss find a way around it they made a more frontal attack now filling a complaint.
  • The papers that Yoon said that she saw while the investigation was on (the 50th letters of Jang to a friend) are in the recount of the original case in 2009, and they were a proof that the defendant deny the right to be added to the case. So there were not added one year later like they are saying, and that the papers were forged for me it's not clear because a news station did an 3rd party specialist analysis of the handwritting and it was Jang's one and also it not make sense that a person could forge 230 papers with plenty of details in a period of 1-2 months, while in Jail.
  • Anyone that know a bit about how Korean Entertainiment works would tell you this, her career in korea is absolutely over, so It make no sense that she's doing this to be famous. If she was trying to be famous outside Korea, she will be doing her vlive in english and making interviews and post in English. She's only trying to appeal to the Korean public, so is not for personal publicity.

Korea might be different, but in the U.S., delays or extensions can be granted if there are reasons for it. So nothing is ever final. Since the 2 month extension, I believe there were more witnesses who came forth so maybe something will come out of it.

From the beginning people have been trying to discredit or break down Yoon Ji Oh, and yet she kept going. I find it stupid though that a reporter implied through his question about her going to Canada as if she were fleeing when she did mention her mother's illness (breast cancer) a few weeks back. It's clearly some of these reporters (or many, I don't know) think she's BS'ing and trying to pin her on something rather than reporting the news unbiased. But unbiased reporting in large has been a dead practice.

I really really hope you're right, I'm quite pessimist with it because how prior similar cases were in this investigation.

They're already in a extension, if they could convince the public that Yoon testimony had not credibility they could say that they reopened the case for nothing and close it again and forever (because the legal time will be over).

Yoon pressuring did make others feel confident to give their witnessed point to the investigator, but maybe the will feel scared now? Yoon can go to Canada and avoid anything legal they try to trow to her, others can't do it.

Like I said, I hope I'm wrong and you're right. We will see.

Remember how they tried to discredit Mr Kim the victim of Burning Sun who started this whole thing off, then multiple women accused him of sexual harassment, and they all turned out to be related to the club, including the Anna woman who was the Chinese drug distributor.

This woman has nothing to gain and everything to lose by coming out with all this, going against very powerful people. What reason would she have to make any of it up?

Yeah, this case doesn't seem to have much steam and even Yoon Ji Oh stated in a past interview that the progress from 2009 to now has been slow but hasn't improved much since the start. Maybe the Burning Sun and all of the other big cases took the spotlight, but even back then there wasn't much momentum on the Jang Ja Yeon's case. It's like either there was nothing more to her case (after it was concluded as a suicide) or it was buried. The fact that it got re-opened gives hope, but is it false hope? I believe the 2 month extension's purpose is to find reason(s) to keep the case alive. Personally I think the new witnesses, even with the slightest credibility, needs to be looked into because back then many people felt the investigations weren't thorough enough. For one thing I've never heard of suicide notes that were signed, stamped, and had social security numbers. And the other other suicides relating to this case are mysterious. Maybe they all got depressed or couldn't take it anymore, who knows.

There are too many questions dismissed, and it has nothing to do with conspiracies. Even the U.S. conduct internal investigations and reviews after cases are closed and it's not uncommon for cases to be re-opened. No new information or evidence is too small. Regardless of Yoon Ji Oh's role, I think Jang Ja Yeon's case needed to be re-investigated.

I remember. The public blasted Mr. Kim for it...And then a few months after we find out there's something to it. Still, there's no victory for him. His life (and family) hasn't been good even with all of the revelations coming out of Burning Sun.
