5 dead and 11 injured after a man lit an apartment on fire and stabbed residents

Around 4:29 pm KST on April 17, a 42-year-old man identified as, Ahn, killed 5 and injured 11 at an apartment in Jinju. 

 

According to the Maeil Business Newspaper, the man lit his apartment on fire, then stabbed the residents who were trying to escape the building. 

 

 

His violent action killed 5 residents including a 12-year-old and injured 11 others who are currently being treated at a hospital. 

 

The fire was put out in 20 minutes. Meanwhile, the man has been arrested. To the police, the man claimed he committed the crime due to unpaid wages. The police also found the man has a history of mental illness. 

 

The investigation is ongoing.
