how most of us feel right now

It's a sad event and a loss for architecture and history, but I'm not exactly feeling the "it's a tragedy for the whole word" the news reporter said last night.

STFU it's ok if you don't care but let people be sad if they want to. It is a loss of a beautiful historic monument that people the world over have enjoyed and been awed by.

People who have no respect for historic monuments/artifacts make be sick.

Luckily most of it has been saved and hey can repair it... but it will still never be exactly the same which is tragic.

People who have no respect for the historical monuments of their colonizers* make you sick? I’m confused what you’re trying to say.

Okay you don't have to care, whatever.

I personally believe historical monuments/artifacts of any kind are important to preserve since they have historical value. They are a window into that time and place and to the people who lived then. We can't go back to that time or talk to people then, but we can communicate with them by what they have left behind. That is why it is important preserving those things.

If you don't see value in that then I don't see any point in reasoning with you.

Most of the times those who go and scream why noone cares about rest of the war torned world and starving people are those wo dont give a fok about anything outside of their bubble in real life.

Notre Dame was place with history and symbol, its like heart of Paris and one of the most important monuments in Europe. People should at least respect this.

If you dont care, you shouldnt care enough to not make thread dedicated to how much you dont care. Or what we should take from this thread?

Saying as not religious person.

It’s not that black or white and I don’t see any point in reasoning with you if you see it that way either. Just like how it’s a historical symbol of value to you, it’s also a symbol that some histories survived and while others were forcefully destroyed.

If you don’t have this sentiment good for you. Some people do. And they are well within their right to share those sentiments. If you don’t want to read it, too bad.

i guess the big fat question is like, why do you guys have to make a huge fuss about not caring? you don't have to care. no one is forcing you to care. but do you really have to make threads about how other people should join you in your antipathy? or hop into threads about it just to rag on people who are kind of bummed about it? like the notre dame isn't a monument to slavery, it isn't a statue of a colonizer, it is a church.

No one has to join anyone. The op literally posted a GIF about how some ppl feel. Who asked you to join in. Just like how you FEEL sad some ppl FEEL bitter. There is absolutely NOTHING you can do to erase sentiments.

i happened to click this thread because it's in random. i didn't even think it was about the notre dame fire lol. fact is, you guys are the one harassing people for feeling sad about it. never once did i or anyone else invalidate your feelings (unless they were factually incorrect, like that one user trying to justify her hatred of france with the colonial tax hoax). did you guys have the same courtesy? well, not so much.

Lol I saw all the threads of you ppl crying about it and didn't do anything to invalidate your feelings. Didn't even say anything yet here you are demanding we not mention our histories and our feelings in the most harmless manner.

It is always your feelings above us , your culture above ours, your monuments above ours huh?

I felt sadder when the National Museum was destroyed here in Brazil and pretty much everything was gone, but I can understand why some people feel sad about Notre Dame.

Because that was your culture. Of course you’ll feel sadder of what you lost than what another one lost, there is nothing wrong with that. That’s why people have the right to grieve Notre Dame too, what that building symbolizes is important to them. It’s important to Parisians, French, Europeans, architects, artists, history lovers, literature lovers, philosophers etc. Even atheists love it, because to them it represents what great things people can be when they work hard, it is after all a pinnacle of human accomplishment and so much love was put into making that. Let people appreciate it because that clearly means a lot to them and let people grieve it. Just because edgy woke teens don’t value it, it doesn’t mean people are wrong to care about it.

I’m sorry about the museum, that’s such a huge loss. My heart sank when I read that.

Being reminded of the colonial past is harassment.

Duly noted. Thanks for sharing.
