Person good at studying

Perspective: Goes from the overall structure to details. Reads the title & summary first and then reads the content. Looks at the diagrams & graphs first.
English questions: Skims through the text, reads the question, and then finds the information.
Math questions: Comprehends the outline of the question and then finds the effective formula.

Person bad at studying
Perspective: Skips the title and the summary. Reads the content from the beginning to the end. Looks at the diagrams & graphs while reading the content.
English questions: Reads the text and then gets stuck at a difficult word/sentence.
Math questions: Only looks at the numbers and tries to find the answer from it.

Pann: Differences between people good at studying & bad at studying

1. [+122, -8] I've come to realize that a studying talent and a work talent are completely different.
I've seen so many people who graduated top universities and are good at studying but they have no idea what they're doing when they work.
People around me say the same thing.

2. [+46, -2] That was how you're supposed to solve math questions?

3. [+22, -1] That's totally me doing TOEIC questions...

4. [+11, -0] That's me doing math questions ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ I don't read the questions, I just apply every formula I know using the numbers ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹

5. [+9, -0] Even if I were to born again, I'll never be good at the English questions in college entrance exams.
My friend in grade 12 who always got a perfect score in English told me to skim through the entire text quickly but I can never do that. ã… ã…

The only reason I studied is because that the only thing I can do. I had no other talent so I just studied . I am good at it as I got 90% at all levels of my education and what I do is written in the op.

I was so shit at studying lol.

Alright everyone you have 3 weeks of study leave

Me: yes holidays

Thankfully I actually worked hard during the lessons so I was actively learning. I guess I'm one of those people that needs to be supervised because I can't be trusted by myself.

I took a course on effective studying techniques in high school and it was very helpful. Saved me lots of time down the road and I'm sure improved my grades long term.

I need this information

Currently at a very difficult university and drowning:'(((

I think the most useful thing I learned was how to effectively take notes. I learned the Cornell note taking method and found it very helpful. http://lsc.cornell.edu/notes.html   https://medium.goodnotes.com/study-with-ease-the-best-way-to-take-notes-2749a3e8297b

The thing that makes studying difficult is that everyone learns differently. What works for one person may not work for the other person. Schools don't necessarily teach students how to study. Instead of teaching to the individual they teach the same methods to all of their students. And it's frustrating to the students who cannot or have a hard time understanding those methods. They get discouraged and may feel stupid among their peers. Understand that these students may actually be bright or gifted. It's just that they haven't found an effective way of getting the information they need to make sense of it all. The boards of educations, schools, and teachers need to understand that learning comes in many forms as there are many different kinds of students. Don't give up on the students (who are willing to learn) just because they're behind in the class. Find a way to reach them, that is your role as an educator. People can learn if you give them the right tools and strategies.

Ain't that easy... Even if I understand the question, know all the formulas needed, etc. I wasn't "creative" enough.

But there is always that 1 person in each class who managed to come up with a way to solve it in under 1 min

I always read the instruction then question first before looking at that long text paragraph. It's better for saving the time. But i personally don't really like when parents push their children to be good at studying. Every children born with different kind of talent.

I am good at both, good at study and at work.

People who do not get good grades are either stupid or lazy. If people are stupid, they usually end up doing very badly at work. If people are lazy, they usually use tricks/social relationships to be successful at work.

And people who have good grades usually do average or very well at work.

Just jumping in to share a video I was watching the other day that I find helpful!

He’s a medical student at Cambridge and apparently does really well.

Good luck!
