How do you react to confession?

I had a friend do that to me. As a guy, I don't really expect confessions, but as she told me, I felt my heart race.

I just smiled, held her hand and told her I felt the same way as well.

We've been together now for 7 months

did you guys kiss or have fling before that? thing is in my case, I won't be able to see her for at least 3 months, maximum 5 .-. but most likely 5.

My heart races and I feel a bit flattered for a moment.

Then I get super stressed out because I know I don't like them back and idk how to handle this.

what if they explicitly tell you that they do not ask for anything/expect anything in return ~ so you don't have pressure

Hasn't happened to me so far but that definitely help me relax and make rejecting them easier.

I really like this girl and I am certain she likes me as well, but I will not be able to see her for few months... it freaks me out so much .-. I do not know what to do

It really depends, and also I think I wouldn't react the same as I did in the past.

As a teenager, I had no self-esteem or confidence, so weirdly, when people showed interest about me, I was... aggressively ignoring them and being sometimes even rude to them. It was fucked up really, and stupid, but I just couldn't understand what they were seeing in me, wallowing in self-hatred, so I was reacting violently to it.

However, a couple of weeks ago, a friend of mine confessed that she has a huge crush on me, and I just couldn't help find that endearing, cute and tell her so, and hug her. I welcomed that with way more ease than I used to a decade ago.
