Will Ciara make it ok for black girls to be silly and carefree?

Right now black girls can only get shine in the industry if they are thotty, edgy, sexy, or consumed with ain't sh!t men.  Will Ciara's new light hearted single make record labels take quirky black girls seriously?  We need our own Carly Rae, Taylor Swift, Meghan Trainor, Katy Perry...etc.

I agree that we need more types of black girl representation but Ciara is past her commercial peak tbh, it won't get that much attention

True, but maybe she'll get lucky like with Level Up.  Anyway I don't think she will be the new quirky black girl, but I hope she can open the door for one.

I mean I don't necessarily think it was never okay for black girls to be quirky, way back in the early 90s quirky black girls were the biggest thing. e.g-

It's just more so on their appeal and marketing by their record company/label who don't know how to promote them, plus ciara in that video is more sexy than quirky, the girl is NAKED in a bath tub lol. If by quirky you mean bubblegum pop/safe/PG pop then it might be difficult to market that to the black audience, plus how many black female acts even attempt that? hm. Ciara is way different from taylor swift, meghan trainor etc.

OMG! My girls! I love them! Let's not forget Erykah Badu, Missy Elliot, Lauryn Hill and even Nicki Minaj can pretty quirky.

The sexy "strong empowerment" thing is rampant among a lot of female artists, some are good at it (Rihanna) others not so much (I miss the old Little Mix) even artists like Janelle Monae and Ellie Goulding are getting a bit more sexy.

Hmm maybe quirky was the wrong word, I more so mean girls who aren't fierce all the time or who can laugh at themselves and look goofy.  The Ciara video was still sexy but it had a silly playful element to it that I don't think we see with black girls sadly.  I even saw people in the comments saying that she's trying to be white now smh.  Young black girls need all types of representation including the happy go lucky kind.
