Fashion shows are constantly being criticized for their use of either underweight or overweight models, or models who in some way don’t represent the general population.

 

Now new photos have emerged of a show that many feel has just totally crossed the line: Girls who appear to be as young as 5 have walked the runway in a Victoria’s Secret–style fashion show in China.

 

 

The shocking images show that the children were wearing nothing but lingerie, costume wings, and headpieces — all in front of a very snap-happy crowd.

 

The show was held at a shopping mall in Chengdu City, in southwest China’s Sichuan province.

 

 

It comes after Kim Kardashian sparked controversy with her new children’s line after showing off a bikini and lace slip dress on Snapchat just last month.

 

“I’m not dressing my 4-yr-old daughter in a leopard n lace slip dress Kim Kardashian Kids Line,†one outraged parent wrote.

Very, *very* inappropriate and creepy. Little girls shouldn't be exploited like that, and they don't look at all cute or pretty dressed like that, so I don't know what the organizers of that event were even thinking.

isn't it creepier to consider that stuff lingerie?? like, its no different than beauty pageant/ swimsuit attire. of course that can still be criticized in its own right especially in this setting, but i just don't get the sexualization of kids who aren't doing anything inherently sexual. i didn't look at those pics and think those girls were in bras and panties. and the title mislead me to believe they were actually wearing victorias secrets stuff when they aren't....

I didn't either, but there will be people in that audience who will. Just because sane people aren't sexualizing these kids doesn't mean these shows wouldn't be swarmed by pedophiles.

Honestly, that's way too far. A definite example of child exploitation. 

I wonder if the parents gave those VS management (or whoever decides on this) permission first before all of this, because I don't know any reasonable parent so far who would let their young kids do this. If it's a no, then a possible violation of basic human rights.

It's not because they're wearing bikini's, it's the Victoria Secret style fashion show paired with the bikini's that makes it worse. VS fashion show is associated with sexiness, it's just creepy to do a child-centered version. The fashion show could have been something cute if the creative director would have just left out the wings and replaced it with beach accessories (pool floats, sun hats, sunglasses, floaties, etc.).
