“Seungri-gate has reportedly cost the market capitalization of major listed entertainment Kpop companies nearly $538 million

I don't mind if this leads to some structural changes, especially since this is a much bigger issue than just Seungri. I don't agree with the statement of "one rotten apple" because this is clearly a case of a whole rotten foundation and a system enabling all this both within the entertainment industry and outside.

But this should also extend to a deeper discussion in Korean society about misogyny, and all that is wrong with "alcohol business", the police system, and the political governance itself. This might have started with Seungri slipping, but in no way is this about him. He's small fish really.

Unfortunately, there has been just as horrifying things that happened rocking Korean society, and people were enraged for a while, but nothing much changes structurally. And I am afraid that more than this is needed to change things.

I don't know if this will affect kpop or BTS specifically all that much. I kinda doubt it.

Not sure if this is gonna affect kpop as a whole in the long run, I think it's more likely it'll just affect YG entertainment. It seems to have really damaged the company name among Koreans. Anyway, I hope this will instigate some societal and company changes where it's needed. Thank you Pimpgri

Why is the national pension service even a major investor in YGE to begin with? Why is something government and peoples retirement related investing in a kpop company. something like peoples retirement money shouldn't be involved in stocks that are as volatile as an entertainment company. They should be involved with very safe stocks like utilities and things that are recession-proof. Putting peoples retirement money on the line with a company who can go up and down based on whether its idol groups succeed or not, or in this case one of them causes a big scandal is ridiculous.

If Korean society changed a little bit for good, for positive, then it worths it.

What is 538 millions of usd if korean women can feel more safe?

Korean show biz needed that spring cleaning.

And about taking care of idols' morality and personality... If you employ teenagers as artists then you should be obliged to take care about their education, mental health and personality development. Period.

It just shows how strong and deep are YG's connections with some corrupted government officials.

Even though this is positive news about BTS, why are people always trying to connect them with every issue? It's getting absurd.

I mean, it makes sense the researchers would. Bighit is part of the industry/data

If Bighit can't make it through this, then this issue becomes even more worrisome...

But on the other hand Bighit isn't public so there is literally no way to know if they were affected or not unless they make a statement saying they were or weren't.

True...yet people are still able to gather some information/estimates about them...

The point still remains. It make sense industry people are watching Bighit.

Critics say that the system, namely the entertainment agencies, has only produced people who are good at singing and dancing, but hasn’t been interested in developing their character, personality or morals.

they are called entertainment agencies. Idols get paid for singing and dancing in different events they are attending , this is their job, they are paid for their professional life, not personal life.

Is Faculty of Mathematics interested in developing the personality and morals of their students or their aim is to create good mathematicians? Why idols should be treated differently? Or actors? Actors are paid for their roles, not for their morals.

Did they only invest in YGE or the big 3 altogether?

If it's only YGE, that is more than coincidental.
