On March 20, New Daily released an interview with Lee Sung Soo, a production manager at SM Entertainment. The interview took place at the 'SXSW 2019' in Austin, Texas. Lee spoke about the agency's plans to tackle the global market.

He stated, "We're planning a 2nd Girls' Generation with all Americans and the 2nd NCT with all Europeans. Localization is SM Entertainment's global strategy."

Lee continued, "Rather than trying to fit in with the favor of the general public, SM Entertainment has been creating content for those fans who love SM's own unique color, culture, and music... We've confirmed such fandom is great not only domestically but also in North America and Europe. It is our goal to expand it more globally."

Earlier this year, SM Entertainment has started 'localizing' by debuting WayV, a group formed with only Chinese and Thai members.

Lee commented, "With SM's culture, technique, and producing skills, we have presented a complete localized group for the first time," and added, "We plan for localized management in Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, and more in a joint venture format with local companies."

I thought their "2nd Girls' Generation" was supposed to be the upcoming GG with mainly Korean members, but also some from China (iirc)? 0u0plz.png

And is the 2nd NCT also gonna be rotational? Cuz if so, I don't see why they couldn't just do a European based NCT unit. i thought the point of NCT was to have different units for different countries anyway.

err i don't like it when companies call their upcoming groups things like "female/male version of x group" "2nd version of x artist." that already takes away the new group's own identity and just makes everyone compare them to the original artist forever. i remember 2ne1 couldn't shake the "female big bang" title for a while.

anyway does this mean those groups are going to be multi-cultural that promote exclusively in the US and europe? or they're american/european-asians that'll still sing in korean but their target will be international fans?

also i'm not sure how well that'll wok in the west? groups like that work fine in SEA, but in the west we prefer solo artists and tend think groups are cheesy. not to mention groups over here are usually 3 - 5 people, can't imagine anyone being like "wow, 9 - 12 members? amazing!"

We/SM don't even know what the actual fuck sort of direction NCT is going right now and SM wants a second coming of them?

Also I don't agree with the labelling and the reduction of a future group as their predecessors. It just has a bad taste to it.

Good luck finding another combination of great and unique singers like Taeyeon Jessica Tiffany Seohyun Sunny and a very strong dance line like Hyoyeon Yoona Yuri Sooyoung. Various agencies have been trying since 2009 and it hasn't happened and will never happen.
