I've been in Seoul for three days

I've just left Seoul after three days on my way to Hong Kong to see friends. Nobody I know back at home England follows K-pop or K-drama, but I've got to tell someone! Please let it be you. 😊

I'll be quick...

1. Seoul is an interesting city, but not cheap.

2. It's a very safe place for a tourist.

3. I stayed in Hongdae, which is a fun area. There really is a street with busking performers and dancers every night of the week. Even Monday!

4. I found a music shop in Myeondong where I bought both UNI.T albums. That made me happy as Lee Suji (my ultimate bias) was in UNI.T.

5. And seeing a whole shop full of K-pop was somewhat overwhelming.

6. A lot of Japanese girls seem to visit for shopping.

7. Everyone is on their phone, all of the time. I mean everybody, young, old, everybody.

8. Irene is on loads of posters for a soju brand. Blackpink do contact lenses, as do Mamamoo. I think there were other idols promoting, but it felt like Irene was everywhere holding a green bottle. Although maybe I spent too much time in Hongdae!

9. The subway really does have loads of Happy Birthday pictures/videos for idols. More than I was expecting.

10. I'm a very badly dressed person.

compared to korean street fashion, my clothes are garbage lmao

and thanks for sharing your experience~ i'd love to go there someday, too

a bit freaked out over the spycam issue over there, though

hopefully it dies down after some time

I'd like to go there someday, but everybody always talks about the fact that it is so expensive... Do people seem to be in brand clothes 24/7?

I'm lucky enough to be able to afford to stay in a nice hotel (£75/US$100 per night), but I think there are cheaper options like guesthouses.

The fashion thing is actually quite subtle. It's not overt bragging at all, it's just everyone seems to carry off a cool, casual vibe so easily. It's just when you see a guy wearing a Balenciaga jumper or a girl carrying a Chanel handbag, you know they're real.

Koreans came across as quite relaxed to me really. Although clearly very hard working. For example, I went to Lotte Department Store at about 11:30am and restaurants were full with office workers at lunch. I thought, when did they start work!!!??

Thanks for sharing! I'm glad you're enjoying yourself ^^

I plan on going back to Japan more times in the future. At one point I'd like to fly out to Seoul from there for a couple of days ^^

You definitely should. It's only like an an hour flight I think. There were loads of groups of Japanese girls shopping. It must be a thing.

LMAO at your number 10.
A good friend of mine told me that you can always see the exact fashion trends in korea because everybody dresses in them. When she went a few months ago almost everyone wore beige coats and the women all had an orange lip tint on lmao

I used to dream about going, but now...

Did you stay in a 5 star hotel? Or is common 3 star middle-class hotels' price in $100ish dollars per night?

I stayed at Holiday Inn Express in Hongdae for 3 nights (inc breakfast) for W330,000, which is about $100 a night. It's a nice 3 star hotel with spacious rooms with very convenient location. There are cheaper places to stay, I was just treating myself as I don't go on holiday very often.

Don't stop dreaming... Seoul is worth visiting, even for a days. Personally speaking, I've spent so much time enjoying Korean music, TV variety and dramas for free, I felt it was sort-of respectful to spend some time and money in their country.

So everyone dresses up when they go out there?

I didn't go out late night as I was on my own, so don't really know. It was more that people are generally well dressed during the day. Just really nice smart casual. Well, it felt like that to me.

Thank you. I'll keep this in mind.
