To the girls, do you want to change your surname once you get married?

For me I don't want to change my surname if ever I get married because it would be a lot of hassle to change my name in documents and I love my surname (because it's unique and only about 300 people in the world bears my surname). I just learned that our law didn't really say that we should take the men's name but it states that it depends on the couple if whose surname we should follow.

Edit: I was asking this because my friend thought I'm crazy for not wanting the man's surname. I guess we are a long way for thinking that women don't have a choice other than taking the man's name

My mum and I are the only people in the world with our surname. I've looked into it and would probably take it on as a hyphenated or middle name, and use them differently in different situations. It doesn't help that I don't really like the sound of my boyfriend's last name with my first name haha

I think it’s dumb to change your name and identity because of a man. My sister changed her name when she got married and had to go to the expense and inconvenience of changing all her identity documents and her signature. And then when they got divorced a few years later she had to do it all again.

Definitely, I like the idea of becoming a family unit (and sharing the same last name with my kids). My last name is also hella long and difficult to pronounce, and there are other men in the family who can still pass it down.
