Can BTS help bring the representation that Asians/Asian Americans desire in America??

As an ABC, I've always appreciated BTS' presence in America. Representation matters and I'm happy for all the younger Asian Americans and alternative girlies that see themselves in BTS. I was in K-Town/C-Town the other day and saw a group of alternative girlies with their BTS merchandise on and thought, "Wow, BTS really has made an astounding impact!"

 

However, the fight for representation is still a long one. Last year, along with BTS, Asians and Asian Americans made considerable leaps and bounds. Crazy Rich Asians was one of the biggest movies last year, an Asian women hosted SNL for the first time in 18 years, among other accomplishments. Amazing, amazing things are happening.

 

So, considering all that has happened last year, do you think BTS' continued success will continue to open doors for Asian/Asian American representation? Or, since they're foreigners, has their impact peaked?

Many Asian artists and entertainers have praised the representation they provide. 

P.S: their impact has not peaked. PERSONA is expected to be their biggest debut yet. 

 

Persona will be BTS' seventh project, following a #1 bow with Love Yourself: Answer, which topped the chart with 185k. Expectations should far exceed that number this year, as the BTS phenomenon continues to grow stateside, setting up what promises to be one of the biggest debuts of the year.

BTS didn’t set out to represent anybody, they just want their music heard. So to me it doesn’t matter if the public desire them or not, as long as Armys do that’s enough.
