SPOTIFY STREAMS TO ALBUM SALES

Going off the premise of Gross Revenue

And also that the average K-Pop album cost somewhere between 13 - 15 dollars.

I settled on $15USD

$ = USD

1,000,000 Streams = 400 ~ 560 Albums

(Total = $6,000  ~ $8,400)

10,000,000 Streams = 4,000 ~ 5,600 Albums

(Total = $60,000  ~ $84,000)

100,000,000 Streams = 40,000 ~ 56,000 Albums

(Total =  $600,000 ~ $840,000)

250,000,000 Streams = 100,000 ~ 140,000 Albums

(Total = $1,500,000 ~ $2,100,000)

500,000,000 Streams = 200,000 ~ 280,000 Albums
(Total = $3,000,000 ~ $4,200,000)

1,000,000,000 Streams = 400,000 ~ 560,000 Albums

(Total = $6,000,000 ~ $8,400,000)

2,500,000,000 = 1,000,000 ~ 1,400,000 Albums
(Total = $15,000,000 ~ $21,000,000)

5,000,000,000 Streams = 2,000,000 ~ 2,800,000 Albums
(Total = $30,000,000 ~ $32,000,000)

Just found this really interesting to look at!

An example being.

BDZ being $42.15USD on average.

It would need about 1,704,455,678 ~ 2,386,237,950 Streams.

To equal up.

Congrats Twice for having the equivilent of 10B streams.

It's more than that if you do the average prices of their Japanese albums

They probably have somewhere between 13B ~ 17B Streams in Albums.

But that is just the charting conversion right? I thought OP was just trying to show how much money was made off streams by showing an approximate equal number of albums sales.

These numbers aren’t accurate at all actually. Spotify pays per streams. What OP did (I hope so) is use the charts equivalents to showcase numbers.

But acts aren’t getting paid based on streaming equivalents like 150 streams = 1.29$ (song sale) or 1500 streams = price of their album etc.

None of these acts made that much from streaming numbers are way under that

I think they pay slightly more than that now

I read it in an article from around 25.12.2018 that Spotify pays 0.00397$ per stream. Unfortualtelly, the server where the arcticle was posted at is not available so I did some searching and found this one: https://thetrichordist.com/2019/01/29/2018-streaming-price-bible-per-stream-rates-drop-as-streaming-volume-grows-youtubes-value-gap-is-very-real/. From here we can see that it is even lowered than what I thought.

Another thing that come to my mind is one YT clip I watched recently, where a guy explaned how Spotify pays shared how much he was payed and the average per month (March-May 2018) was around 0.0025$.

I think the difference comes from the fact that payment rates are not the same in every reagion/country. The payment rates are generated by taking the monthly income for the country in question, taking out Spotify's share and distributing it equally for every stream that is from an artist/label based in the same country. The income comes from purchased premium accounts and ads, so in a country where there are already established streaming platforms, like Melon, there won't be a lot of premium subscribers or streamers in general. (For the payment part I am not 100% sure, so if I am wrong please feel free to correct me). Taking this into account, S. Korea is probably one of the countries where Spotify pays the least. I won't be suprised if it is 0.001$/stream or even lower.

SK rarely use Spotify for music purposes, they mostly use Genie and Melon.
