The Husband later found out that the car that hit his mistress was owned by Gatsby and went to his house and killed him and then committed suicide from what i remember. It was speculated but never confirmed in the book as far as i remember that Gatsby had done illegal things to make his money. His biggest fault in the book is that the woman he fell in love with when he was poor is now married and has a kid and he doesn't stop pursuing her. So as far as the reader knows Gatsby wasn't some horrendous criminal and was just a dude who got rich and tried to win back the love of the girl from when he was poor only to end up killed because she didn't take responsibility for her mistakes. So i'd personally say Gatsby as a person had flaws but he wasn't some monster willing to do anything to get money/power. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
