For those who don't know what it is just go to the following link to learn more about it:  http://www.google.com/intl/en-us/chrome/devices/chromecast/

I recently bought this streaming device and I thought I'd make a thread about it, because I am liking it so far.  It's really easy to set up and it does what it is meant to do.  "Stream both online and offline content on TV".  However, Its streaming performance is a little lacking when you compare to other stream devices... It can lag at times and there isn't very many third party app support at the moment.  But this will change with time.

Anyways, for those who own the Chromecast, I would like to share an easy tip on how to stream your local content on to your TV.  I just found out that you can play your music/videos/etc. on your Google Chrome browser by simply dragging them on to a blank tab.  From there, you just click on the Google cast button to stream your local content on to your TV.  But please be aware that casting directly from a tab results in lowered quality streams.  I think the video playback quality is locked at 720p and if your internet connection sucks, then things could lag a bit.

Go to the following reddit post for a comprehensive list on "How to play local content on TV with Chromecast":  http://www.reddit.com/r/Chromecast/comments/1umk7t/lets_make_this_the_last_how_do_i_play_local/

EDIT:  Oh, and I forgot to mention that Chromecast is compatible with sites like Viki and Dramafever.  I love using it to watch K-Dramas on the big screen :D

i don't like that u can only stream things through the internet and when i did stream a show it was out of synch

much easier since i'm close to my tv to simply connect one of those adapter things that connects ur tv directly to your computer screen

Oh yea... that's definitely one of its biggest design flaws.  But it also has advantages over other competing devices.

I also have a computer near my TV, so I can connect them together with a HDMI cable without any problems.  But with the Chromecast, I can use any mobile device (phone or laptop) to stream content on to my TV.  This is what makes it so awesome.

It's definitely useful and alot more apps are integrating it

My aunt, uncle and grandma mostly use it on their iPads since they don't have a laptop to hook up via HDMI

It kills the internet though >.<

So much lag when they try to stream their shows

I have both a Google Chromecast device and an Apple TV. It's more limited than the Apple TV for streaming because you have to use it for things on the internet. Also, I haven't been able to stream a tab on my iPad like I can from my computer. However, it was only $35! It's works pretty well most of the time. I really like it!
