What do you think needs to happen for BTS to break through to the basic girlies of America??

BTS are only behind the JoBros in America. With their potent fandom of Asian Americans and alternative girlies, they've made a pretty big impact on the American charts thus far. However, groups like the JoBros appeal to both alternative girlies AND basic girlies. Their most recent release "Sucker" is trendy af and debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

BTS has social media down, but social media stardom can only get you so far in the American music industry. What do you think needs to happen before BTS becomes truly mainstream? Are radio stations the problem? Are Americans just not ready for an Asian group to take over?

OP better direct your concern to BP rn. BTS is doing fine and has no need to "break through to the basic girlies." They have stadiums to rely on lmao

Their box office speaks for itself

Radioplay would be an added bonus but non-english songs will always have to struggle with this

As both a BTS fan and a Jonas Brothers fan (The Jonas Brothers was actually the first boyband that I got into), the reason why it might seem like the Jonas Brothers are ahead of BTS is because of the preferences of the target audience: to be blunt, most listeners would prefer to listen to anything from Western pop (especially if it's from the states) over pop music from anywhere else (like KPOP) due to the faulty belief that anything from the West is "superior in quality" and seemingly more "mainstream" (since pop music originated in the West (Great Britain actually)) compared to similar products from anywhere else (even if, in reality, it's not much worse). Also, English is the most common language in the world, so people would understand songs that are sang in English (even if it's not their first language) more than songs that are sang in an another and less common language like Korean for instance.

My sister is considerably the basic girl/chic (Starbucks, white Converse shoes, North Face jackets, white girl language (sometimes), chic makeup, other sorts of basic girl fashion, etc.) and she likes BTS. I'm also pretty quite basic (Starbucks, white Converse shoes, North Face jackets), and I'm a BTS fan as well.
