Is it unprofessional to send an email to someone past a certain hour?

Let's say it's past midnight and I want to send a work-related email to someone whom I'm not familiar with.

Can I still send the email or do I have to wait till next morning?

I know it's unusual, but the quicker I send it, the faster I'll get a response.

I've never really thought about it until I noticed my classmates always wait till next morning before sending an email.

Edit: Thanks for the answers! I'm gonna send the email now smile.png

wtf do people really think that? lol

i think the beauty of email is that you can send them at 3am and they will get to read it at their convenience. if they have their phone to make some obnoxious noise over the notification that's their fault

I'm not completely sure but since you're not disturbing them, I think it's okay but someone else might have a different perspective on it. But, I've sent and received professional emails at all hours (just shows you're working at that time).

I don't know about bring professional but from experience I know the quicker you send something, even if it's at rally late night/early morning, the better. They will still see the email first thing in the morning anyway regardless when you sent it.

I once had to email coucil about some benefit issues with my dad but because the deadline was the next day I email the relevant stuff at like midnight and everything was sorted by midday do there were no problems. Had I waited till office hours who knows when the person in the other end for to our issue and may or may not have resolved it before the end of the working day and if it wasn't then my dad would've been denied and had to reapply again.

It depends. I have my notifications on so if I get an email at 3 am, I'm gonna wake up and worry that shit went down at work. But if you know that this person turns their phone off/doesn't check it throughout the night then I guess it would be okay.

Depends, but more on how it makes you look. If it makes you look like you were working until 3am, do it. If you're a student or something and they're going to assume you were up gaming until 2am before you bothered to send it, then send it in the morning.

I think it'd be unprofessional to demand a response during non-business hours. As long as you don't do that, I don't see a problem with it.
