Everytime I see them, watch their mvs and performances and hear their songs I always wonder why are not they more popular worldwide...?

They have everything!!! outstanding vocals, jaw dropping performances, catchy songs, really cool mvs, members personalities are so fun and they have so much chemistry.

They have concept and vibe USA loves in ggs (I mean they are more on mature/sexy side)

I want them to become more known they deserve it so much!

Anyway can't wait for their comeback on March 14

their controversies are NOT an issue since there are more global groups with just as many controversies

my only guess is that while they had a steady international fandom in their formative years, they didnt start reaching out to their international fandom until later. with their korean fandom continuously growing, it seems like rbw is focusing more on them, even though they are more responsive to ifans now.

Blackface is a very different type of controversy in the US than some other forms of racism. It absolutely hurt their fandom in a way a different type of controversy would not have.

of course. but those sort of scandals didnt really effect big bang or suju. granted, i did neglect to mention the importance of timing (bb and suju were active and had their scandals when those sort of scandals were less likely to affect groups), and and of brand power, but even before their scandal, when they were being hyped up as the group to love, mamamoo has never mobilized their international fandom at all. like yeah, they started being more responsive post-blackface scandal, but by then the door of interest for most ifans had closed.

mamamoo feels like a 3rd gen group with a 2nd gen sensibility. despite initially appealing to ifans with their looks and music, their structure and promotion feel very typical of a 2nd gen kpop group. this is just speaking as someone who doesnt follow them, but their leveraging of social media (something that most current groups consider a staple) feels very lacking, esp bc they dont have the hype/interest of bigger groups to not constantly feed into that. which is weird, bc i remember them being very active on youtube when they began.

Yes it is. Most of the groups are also male, which is necessary to mention because fans do not hold male groups to the same standards. Their past scandals really impacted their popularity internationally, especially on Stan twitter which is undeniably where many fans are. They’ve lost thousands of fans internationally because of their behavior.

They've done so much insensitive stuff. I fans aren't forgiving of repeat offenders.

I think you mean "I fans aren't forgiving of female offenders"

Because plenty boy groups have done more and worse than Mamamoo all without offering any apology (let alone four the way Mamamoo did, along with a commitment to educating themselves and taking responsibility for gross ignorance) and they're all doing just fine with international fans. Although even girl groups who've messed up aren't held to account the way Mamamoo is so I have to just assume there's something about Mamamoo that really pisses off people or makes people want to keep them down for eternity.

Their team also has no idea how to maximise social media and other elementary marketing techniques when it comes to appealing outside of SK. A pity because with the right team, they'd smash.

theyre just not very exciting for ifans. music is kinda ordinary. no flashy high budget mvs. not really a visual group. no fancy outfits. talent isnt really the main draw when it comes to kpop
