1. Because of wars and history
2. Because Japan is superior
3. Because we're rich
4. Not sure of their opinions
5. Because we're doing everything USA tells them to do

Minority:
Because we're a closed off country
Because we're too serious

What disgust me the most is the fact 14yo are considered legal and the fetish they seem to have for youngsters

Blame Akimoto and his fantasy factory, neverending.

It's hard to look past the war atrocities committed, especially against the Chinese

That's the stuff of nightmares

Yup. Most Asian countries find it difficult or impossible to forgive Japan for their extremely inhumane war atrocities like the Rape of Nanking and the comfort woman. Worse, is that the Japanese government doesn't really wholeheartedly apologize for these incidents and continues to promote an altered Japanese history to its people which kind of glosses over these atrocities. In addition, the current prime minister Abe has allowed the immortalization of war criminals in shrines to honor them even though they have committed some of the most inhumane acts.

there's a theory that this is a result of Japan's war history though.

the theory states that "kawaii" originated as a sympathetic response to the suffering of the Japanese who were bombed. Japan developed a cultural affinity for all that is cute, weak, and helpless, because that is how Japan felt after the bombings. in short, "kawaii" is cultural PTSD.

the sexualization of cuteness though...? probably just an inevitable response when you have a culture so interested in cuteness and innocence.

I mean, in the west people sexualize catholic schoolgirl uniforms because they are considered innocent and cute.

again this is a theory so don't attack me lol

It kinda makes sense though... Still disgusting, but when you're close to death like Japan that survived 2 nuclear bombs it makes sense they would get attached to whatever reminds them of youth and life. Still, legalizing prepubescents isn't ideal. I don't think I would enjoy being a 14 year old girl in Japan.

  • In the major cities, too many people, confined
  • the radiation situation / scare probably doesn't help
  • Weird fetishes
  • Not knowing / ignorant about or denying their history
  • Too homogeneous / go with the consensus, social issues like isolation (and suicide)
  • Still a male dominated society (although it is gradually improving)

That being said I like Japanese people generally (found them respectful and nice) and their culture/food. But like with any country, there are the good and the bad.

okay but actually tea..japan's culture, contributions and history is richer than korea

And your point being?

Also, not surprising that Japanese contributions and MODERN history (because they're both rich in history) is richer when they colonised Korea officially for 35 years. They made Korea their bitch and set them back by 35 years and even more so what exactly was your point? That we should applaud a country occupying another country and robbing its people of their culture and development? Contributions and modern history ain't everything.

Don't understand how you seem to think you're fit to judge that Japan's culture and history is richer than Korea.
