And as the drama progresses and starts gaining buzz, it's going to definitely get higher. This might end up a real hit by the end of its run.

Both Chen Xingxu and Peng Xiaoran have become stars overnight thanks to this.

Some other dramas’ Douban score for reference

Ashes of Love: 7.4

Story of Yanxi Palace: 7.2

Ruoyi in The Palace: 7.3

Legend of Fuyao: 4.9

Fuyao 4.9 but Ashes of Love 7.4? Lmao these ratings are a joke

I have seen all that dramas mentioned except for Ruyi and tbh, the only ones I liked without fastfwding so much scenes is Legend of Fuyao, it was a brilliant drama. Ashes of Love has a great start, it has a captivating cinematography and the first few episodes truly can capture your interest but it gets draggy and boring from the middle towards the end, though I can see why so many liked it, the main couple has strong chemistry but rating it higher than Fuyao or rating it Fuyao low at 4.9 really while Ashes is 7.4? thats a stretch. Well, Yang Mi has a lot of haters online and there was even a news back then that non-fans (fans of other popular actress) is purposely giving her dramas lowest score just because its her and they don't want her getting all that success.

As for Yanxi Palace, the drama was solid, acting was great and it deserved all the recognitions however, for someone who has seen a lot of palace dramas, I was not able to totally enjoy it. I dropped the drama at episode 40. The schemes are becoming redundant and boring and I dont like the idea of where the story is heading.

I am currently watching Bloody Romance and yeah, so far so good, just have to fast forward unnecessary scenes. The drama reminds me of Eternal Love and Ashes of Love because of the River of Oblivion. Hopefully this doesnt drag, though knowing cdramas, I dont set my expectations that high.

I thought this probably would be because of Yang Mi haters - so childish

Anyways, I was questioning only these two ratings since they're the only ones from this list that I watched laugh.png I can say for sure that Fuyao could get 8+ and that Ashes of Love is overhyped. But what can we do, right

Good for them

Very low budget, some technical flaws and no known names in the cast

They were counting only with the fans of the novel to watch it and do the publicity for them

I've read the writers are not being loyal to the novel but no too much hate so far from fans of the novel

I did not watch any of these dramas mentioned here, I can't watch Chinese dramas anymore, my limit is 50 episodes at max if a drama hooks me into it completely to keep on watching it of course

Bloody Romance have advantages of being a web drama with only 36 episodes and I've seeing people say no dragging or filler episodes happen along the way. The scriptwriters did the work for 36 episodes and it's easy to see they really did it. It's a very tamed and loose adaptation of a web novel which I've no idea the number of chapters it have.
