GD talks about his days as an SM trainee

Recommended Posts

I wonder why he left SM in the first place. Did he mention it?

YG must have had an amazing offer, also I didn't realize he was ever signed to SM. I thought he was just a trainee.

Pretty sure he wasn't signed, because he was like 11y/o when he left. Iirc he left because he didn't know what he wanted. In the period after leaving he discovered hip hop and started rapping, then he joined YG and the rest is history...

I guess we can take a clue from his quote. He 'didn't sing much' and 'could dance a bit'...those two things are quintessential for an SM trainee. Maybe they didn't see him improving and debuting in the future since he didn't show much promise at that time.

I remember reading an account of an ex SM trainee and that person had written that they actually analyse and evaluate at what rate your skills have the potential to grow and whether you'll be fit to debut in some pre-defined time and if you don't show that promise they let you know.

Lol GD was clearly being humble when he said he 'could dance a bit'. He was, and if he wants to be still is a very good dancer. You also have to remember GD was in SM in 1995-2000. This was in the early days when SM didn't have a dedicated trainee program yet and let promising individuals without specific talents (like GD) train at random times that suited them.

I think he was telling it as it is. he was probably a kid back then. SM has a particular style they went for since H.O.T becuase you can see their influences in both singing and dancing in the groups that debuted under SM after H.O.T. Whether he had a particular training program or not, they had their foundation with regards to 'style' laid with H.O.T.

I'm not saying SM kicked out GD or that GD wasn't good enough or something...he just probably wasn't SM's style. GD has more of an artist vibe as opposed to the 'idol' image.

dat ninja edit tho...how do you people do that o.O

you sure cause in the quote he says "When I was signed to SM and came in as a trainee..."

It does seem a young age to be in a contract but he mentioned it : /

I think you're taking it too literal. I'm 100% sure he did not have a contract at age 6-11 lmao
