Article[Exclusive] Produce x 101 extends debut group contract to 5 years

Source: Korea Ilbo via Nate

1. [+1,237, -13] Looks like CJ was sad they couldn't milk Wanna One for longer

2. [+1,104, -30] They saw how much Wanna One made and now they're bringing out the slave contracts

3. [+950, -20] Why? Obviously, because these groups fail once they disband ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹

4. [+70, -6] They saw how much money Wanna One brought in and extended the contracts to 5 years;; ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ too bad I don't think they'll get another group like Wanna One

5. [+65, -9] I honestly think it's better for the members too.. Look at how all the members ended up, they have nothing going for them after disbandment ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹

6. [+50, -1] But what're the members going to do after the 5 years?? They can't technically debut with a rookie group, are they all going to go solo??? I guess agencies aren't going to send their trainees who have debuts coming up immediately.

7. [+47, -0] A contract that long will be a problem if the season flops

8. [+37, -2] Mnet did lose a lot by not locking Wanna One into a longer contract..

9. [+36, -0] 5 years... that's how long most groups last before they end up disbanding ã…‹

10. [+36, -0] 5 years? That sounds like a failure

11. [+33, -0] A 5 year contract is basically like debuting under a new agency ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹

12. [+33, -0] This decision totally came out of Wanna One's success... but can they assure that the new group will be as successful?

1. [+1,240, -23] They're extending it because they know the members only do well when they're together ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹

2. [+1,278, -139] Wanna One was indeed quite successful... but I don't think they should count on getting another group like that. They synergized well and had individually talented members.

3. [+230, -5] They must really be regretting not extending Wanna One's contract. Just starting off the new season with 5 years ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹

4. [+197, -27] If the contracts are 5 years, please stop with the sympathy votes. We really need to vote based on talent and not people like Sohye and Yoon Jisung.

5. [+171, -1] I get that they're upset about not getting to milk Wanna One for longer but isn't 5 years the lifespan of most idol groups? Why not just launch their own CJ idol group instead, what is this?

6. [+170, -3] I just hope they're not doing this purely for the greed and have every intention to care for the group too. Why do they think most Wanna One fans were against their contracts being extended?

7. [+140, -22] Should've done this from the start. Why only now after so many Wannables were heartbroken over their disbandment? Do they really think they'll get another group like Wanna One? tsk tsk

[enter-talk] PRODUCE X 'AFTER 2 YEARS AND 6 MONTHS OF GROUP PROMO, WILL PROMOTE WITH A COMBINATION OF INDIVIDUAL ACTIVITIES"

(pic not included)

Mnet revealed that after 2.5 years of promotion as a "debut unit" the group will spend the rest of the 2.5 years in a combination of group activities and individual activities.
The launching of the first Produce boy group's contract lasted 1 year and 6 months, while this is a sharp improvement. Produce 48 also extended their contract to 2 years and 6 months.
This means that votes for Produce X will have a much bigger significant impact on the trainees.
Meanwhile, the first broadcast for Produce X will be happening next month.

Yup, "5 years"

original post: here

1. 5 years contractã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹  Talk about creating high blood pressureã…‹ã…‹ã…‹

2. Wow this just makes you realize how much Wanna One must've earned throughout this time

3. I can already see the mess of a fandom they will have

4. If they're going to introduce individual activities, the akgaes will be freaking on fire for this ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹

5. There will be some members who will have to serve in the meantime too, if we're talking about 5 years, they're not making a project group, this is literally a group

6. Seriously their fandom will be like at warã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ I already feel tiredã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹

7. Fanwar party, akgaes party

8. ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ They opened the gates of hell *clap clap clap*

9. Huh....5 year...I'm not watching...

10. This will fail, they should've stopped this series long time ago

I still don’t get why they didn’t buy out wanna One members contracts, there’s no guarantee the new group will have their particular X factor.

And with a 5 year contract aren’t they essentially ending / altering permanently, the groups who’s members are participating.

You are basically sacrificing your hard trained idols to CJ. You help CJ save all the training cost while they benefit everything off it.

How can any companies say yes to this?

Wow now that we think about it, this is sly af.

And after profiting everything from those 5 years, CJ has a legit reason to dump them and begin on their next group without losing anything.

Companies will only send trainees that they don't want anyway in this case...unless they are getting a huge pie out of the earnings

This I don’t think companies would send their best trainees into this. When that’s one of the reasons that makes produce entertaining

Wow Produce is seriously going to oversaturate the industry. There will be a new season every year and the groups debuting with five year contracts will still be going strong...

I feel so sorry for the other rookie groups, they're going to have a nightmare building up their fandoms if these Produce groups take all their potential fans away.

Government officials or the public need to ask for the transparency of the profits sharing because I suspect that at present CJ got profits from Mnet (commercials & endorsements during the show), CJ parts for the trademarks & development of the group, & CJ parts for managing the group through their sub-agency. So basically I suspect that CJ got 3/4 from the profits while the middle & small agencies (including the artists) only got 1/4 of the profits. This is not to include possible back agreements that the middle & small agencies offer to CJ so that their artists can get better spotlights in the show. This is why the rich get richer and the middle and small stay in the middle and small if not poorer.

If you think about it if their groups fail when they go back they won't make nearly as much money as they do in the Produce group. If a company knows they can't debut a successful group but have one or two trainees that are amazingly outstanding then it would make sense to send them.

There's no way a group from Produce will flop. They said it on IZ*ONE but look at them now

Thanks Japan

The X factor was the show and the voting system, Wanna One would have been successful with 11 different members, the thing with this show is that if you watch it you want to vote for someone and once you've done it the one you have voted for becomes your champion that you'll feel you have to defend and support no matter what he does
