Like there are just more straight people than there are openly gay people. When I first came out in high school I knew like 12 gay guys out of the 3000 students at school and like 2 were somewhat my type. And in my friend group, I was the token gay, with my close guy friends being straight. So if I really developed a crush, it was most likely on a straight guy. That changed when I went to college in large city with a significant gay population. Not only did the number of the pool of gay guys grow, but I was exposed to a much wider spectrum of gay men and then had more options and hung out with more gay people, and then never gave a second glance to a straight guy again because now I knew where to look for potential partners. There are also a lot of hyper masculine gay men out there, they aren't hard to find at all, so you don't even need to waste time looking at straight men for that. I understand that obviously not everyone can access gay spaces, but even if you just cruise through gay dating apps, you will come across plenty of "straight-acting" gay guys who aren't insecure.
