Although some of you might think that the Youtube views for these songs are still quite low, don't forget most of China surf the web behind the Great Firewall. These covers have been all over China's social media (weibo, youku, bilibili, douyin, etc) for the past few years or so.

Original: é«˜æ©‹å„ª-ヤキモãƒ

Chinese Cover which became viral in China: å´é’å³° - 起风了

Original: Tainaka Sachi - Ichiban Boshi

Chinese Cover: ä»¥å†¬ - 我的一個é“姑朋å‹

Quite interesting to see the cross-cultural exchange between China and Japan.

Both actually

For the first one, it was actually covered by an indie online Chinese singer called è²·è¾£æ¤’也用券, who released a Chinese cover in February 2017 of Yu Takahashi's original song. Reception was quite okay and it was quite popular within Chinese online circle, but it exploded in popularity in early 2018 due to Douyin.

It cooled down for a bit until two popular Chinese singers covered the songs again in two popular Chinese music shows. å´é’å³° (vocalist of Sodagreen) sang it in I'm a Singer and JJ Lin sang it in Sound of My Dream (which unfortunately got taken down due to copyright issues). Thus, this song became the hot topic for the Chinese media and internet again.

Then for the second song, it was released as a cover (without seeking copyrights) in May 2016 by an online team for an internet game å‰‘网3. The song became very well-received because of its ancient Chinese style and lyrics, which spawned many covers by online streamers and artists (like niconico).
