Romeo 6,271 Posted May 5, 2013 Share Posted May 5, 2013 Ace Attorney / Gyakuten Saiban Ace Attorney, known in Japan as Gyakuten Saiban (逆転è£åˆ¤, lit. "Turnabout Trial"), is a series of visual novels/adventure games, created by Shu Takumi and published by Capcom, in which players assume the role of a defense attorney in a fictional courtroom setting, which is based on the Japanese legal system, to strive to find their clients "not guilty" using investigation, evidence, and cross-examination to prove their case. The first three games in the series, originally released only in Japan and in Japanese between 2001 and 2004 for the Game Boy Advance platform, have been ported to the Nintendo DS as well as localized into English and other languages. The series has been developed for the DS from the ground up starting with the fourth game. The DS remakes and games in the series take advantage of the DS features, including the microphone and touchscreen. The series was released on WiiWare in Japan from December 15, 2009 and in North America from January 11, 2010. The first three games feature and are sometimes referred to by the eponymous main protagonist, Phoenix Wright. The fourth game, set seven years after the end of the third game, introduces a new protagonist, Apollo Justice, who takes over from Wright (although Wright makes a comeback as the main protagonist in Gyakuten Saiban 5), and Miles Edgeworth, a key character from the first trilogy, is featured in two special interquel titles set between the third and fourth games. The first game, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, has been adapted into a 2012 film adaptation, Ace Attorney, directed by Takashi Miike. Played and finished all the 5 English-translated chapters: hard to pick an overall favorite, but perhaps the first one takes the cake by a small margin due to the presence of Turnabout #4 and #5, which are both just fantastic. "Justice For All" was an overall snoozefest for me, and not even the kind of interesting last case can redeem it in my eyes. The other games all have a similar quality level for me, with not-so-interesting cases alternated to pure gems. The character I appreciated the most during my playthroughs was definitely Miles Edgeworth; loved everything about him, from the signature Edgey-shrug, to the way he constantly cut Detective Gumshoe's paycheck, to his "love" relationship with Wendy. Special mention for Ema Skye, who managed to conquer me with her dorky side and passion for science, and Godot who I loved from the beginning due to his... Godot-ness and incessant coffee jokes. Well, after thinking about it, the amazing characters in the series are just too many to list without digressing into pages of text, so I'll just stop here for now. What's that thing on his shoulder, though? o.o And if he's a prosecutor, why is he in chains? His name kanji: 夕 (yuu): evening 神 (gami): gods/mind/soul 迅 (jin): swift/fast Anyone want to take a guess at what his English name will be? They usually base it off the kanji meaning in some way. It's out on July 25th in Japan? I thought we had a longer wait than that. Maybe they'll announce an English release date at E3. Anyways, the AA franchise has been one of my favourite, mostly because of it's humour. I can't wait for AA5 and I hope they announce PLvsAA for an English release. There was a rumor going around last year during TGS that it was coming out in the US, but there hasn't been any news on it at all since then, so it was probably false information.
