I will speak for BTS but the only "luck" they had was meeting each other at BigHit. That is true. Them 7 together with all their qualities was an act of holy luck. The rest is hardwork, passion, great music, great marketing and never giving up. Because, they could've been 7 amazing men together, but if they didn't work on their music as passionately they did, if they didn't invest time making us little weird montages on twitter, if they did give up when things didn't seem to work for them, they wouldn't be at the top right now.

Ofc luck is involved. Circumstance and luck is very important. Not everyone talented and hardworking makes it big. To imply that is actually quite narrow minded. None the less saying they were lucky does not take away from the fact that they did work hard and that they are talented. Conversely it’s also not right to say everything they achieved is just by being lucky. It’s the combination of talent and luck that gets you to places.

Not the ones I can know well. I can only really vouche for BlackPink and Twice because those groups I have paid attention to since debut

Twice had a small public push with their debut survival show. Then their debut song was a major hit after months of promoting in all kinds of ways. In conjunction with being everywhere comercially. This followed by the major hit Cheer Up which was followed up by their second mega hit TT solidified them. Since then they have been keeping the spotlight on them while producing hit songs and setting trends.

BlackPink started off very strong with BBY with a modern sound that got them a lot of attention. They also showed a lot of skill in performing which gave them more attention during events. Then PWF was released shortly after which in itself caught on as a hit song. It was a combination of the powerful start from the YG company and the release of strong hits while under the spotlight that got BP to a point where western fans and artists would eventually act to boost their popularity skywards with the release of D4

I don't get Armys who vehemently deny luck played a part in BTS' rise in popularity. There are thousands of unappreciated and unpopular hard-working, talented, and passionate people in the industry. Those qualities do not guarantee success and y'all sound dumb implying that's all you need. I'm in no way saying their popularity is completely reliant on luck as that's not true, but to deny it just seems foolish to me. We have 7 men with amazing chemistry who happen to join one of the few companies that allows them to freely work on their music and isn't a piece of shit at management (that in and of itself is a lifetime of luck) and releases their breakout song in the midst of the biggest kpop group's comeback after a 2 year hiatus......  What can you chalk that up to if not luck?

They're passionate and hard working and talented and freaking amazing and lucky as hell. Being lucky does not discount any of their other qualities.

How does your BP explanation translate to luck? It sounds like golden spoonfed to me. Debut extremely high with PAK.

The decision to release a group of that sound. From that company. In the wake of a lack of strong concepts were all decisions made to make BlackPink stand out. And it worked. They got a massive amount of support from day one because those in charge knew how to leverage the pieces they had access to. Then they got their second comeback.very quickly after so they would have two major songs to perform at all the venues they would later appear in. By making them perform on large stanges for the next few months at all the award ceremonies, they showcased BP to the Kpop community and international community that would be watching. It all seemed planned, if it wasnt planned, then that would be the luckiest set of events ever. The decision to drop them from public eye will always confuse me but when they came back with AIIYL, they were forced to release a Pink track because the first two had been Black. But it seems like BlackPink has always lived for the year end as that is when the most people are paying attention. The reason BP ended up in June last year may have been because of competition. The summer was a seriously competative time.

Silver Spoon or not, these are simply tools to be used not really factors of luck. But that is considering the group and the team behind them. If we are just talking members of the groups then almost everything is luck as it depends on the decisions of those around and not on themselves

Let’s also take into account BP really became massively popular in Korea with D4 and have risen quickly since. Yes, they’ve always been popular, that’s no argument. However, people seem to forget how much they were at a disadvantage. They went on a 7 month break as rookies and then another year break. If it was any other group, people would say it was a risk, but because it’s YG they say it’s not. Then, they point to iKon and Winner hiatus as a reason for their comeback not doing well, but BP’s hiatus as the reason why they did well. In a sense, BP is lucky they created a fanbase so dedicated with so little opportunity. It’s a combination of likeablness, marketability, brand, and luck. YG also said he wasn’t sure a song like D4 would do well because it was rap-heavy and the sound, but it became a massive hit. Luck has played a part in their popularity, but so has many other factors. Sometimes, it’s the right group, at the right time, with the right song.

No, if you mean success brought on by chance and not by one’s own effort. I think those who survive trainee years to finally debut are nurtured in a vetting system that minimizes the value of luck which may have brought them to the door of opportunity but talent, charisma or visuals opened the door for them to enter and the hard work that it takes to make the journey sustains them until success is achieved.
