I'm reposting my scenario analysis from another thread, so that months down the road when we have more news about Somin, we can look back and make better guesses about what exactly happened...   my baby Somin...

 

At this point, i'm accepting both possibilities - that she left of her own accord or that the company forced her out. Let some time pass and we'll be able to make a better guess based on whether or not she stays with DSP.

 

1. If they forced her out without giving her something in return, like the promise of a re-debut within the next year or something, she'll surely leave DSP and probably find another agency. She didn't work so hard all these years to be shelved like this.

 

2. If they asked her to quit April and gave her a promise in return, we'll see her again soon.

 

3. If she asked to leave because of external problems (such as a sick family member or similar events), the company will expect her to fulfill her contract, so we'll see her again soon.

 

4. If she asked to leave because she didn't want to be an idol anymore, she'd have to pay back the company big time, but then she'll quietly leave the entertainment world and we won't see her again.

 

Whatever the case i hope she's fine, and that she'll be back before long!!!

just saw wiki....i dont know if that's true or not, but Jeon Somin is on the DSP's Soloist list.

I'm really sad about somin nowadays. Whenever I see april new material, I wonder how somin would have sang a certain part or how she would have looked in the mv. In a way I can't get behind the girls in April anymore.

 

I was hoping that somin would be in project 101 along with chaekyung and shiyoon but she wasn't. I hope chaekyung and shiyoon do get into the project group as mnet would be sure to promote them very well....

 

I hope somin is doing well and having a very merry christmas.....

Everytime i listen to a new April track, i can't help but get the sense that their sound was massively affected by Somin's absence. It's clear now that her voice provided the foundation that the group's combined sound was built upon. Not to mention all the solo parts that we're missing out on.

 

I've been able to get back to supporting April, but it's just not the same anymore.

 

I disagree about Produce 101 though, she deserves better as a previously-debuted idol in her own right than to compete among so many other lesser wannabes. I hope Chaekyung and Shiyoon make it to the top, but more for the achievement and fame than for an actual career with Mnet, which i don't think highly of.

 

Let's keep this thread alive with any news at all of Somin, no matter how small. Keeping the faith that she hasn't given up.

My speculation from the start might have been right: Soon after debuting April, DSP realised the old Kara members probably wouldn't renew their contracts and started thinking up possible solutions for Youngji. The plan they decided upon involved Somin (who they felt didn't really match April's concept anyway) and so they asked her to leave April first to re-debut with Youngji later. 

 

The above is strictly my speculation. We still have to wait for an official announcement re Kara's fate, and anything could happen. 

 

But at least there's something to look forward to!

Yep, me too! I want to her to know abou how much people love her~ but I don't think her SNS private accound would be the best way for it hahahhaa ok we show support but she wouldn't be confortable...It may imply she change her account and we all lose those beautiful photos hahaha

 

Yeah let's not be sasaeng fans lol, especially while she is out of the limelight for the moment. Let her enjoy her privacy.

 

And anyway guys 99% chance she'll be back, the plan is getting clearer and clearer with the news about Kara. So i'm sure it was never the idea to keep her out of the public arena for long!

She created (yesterday) an IG account but It looks some people have found her so she has deleted it today...

About Somin and Youngji redebuting together, it's not even a rumour, it's only a theory.

 

It was based on the timing and probable motives behind the decision by DSP to allow/make Somin leave April. Those of us who support this theory are waiting to see if we're right.

 

About wikipedia, in the first place Somin's name in the solo artists list is wrong, she has never debuted as a solo artist, and she should be placed in the 'Trainees' list if there is one. I just hope it doesn't mean someone knows she left DSP.......

Yup.

 

April will need two or so years to fit into KARA's image, while Rainbow is for a more mature audience, so DSP needs a group that can fit in the middle which is KARA's territory. Youngji, Somin, Chaekyung and Shiyoon (and I hope one more top visual member) will be able to fill in what KARA will leave behind. 

 

I agree that DSP should retire the KARA name, but this new group should be given KARA's catalog for them to have a backup repertoire while they are still building their name as DSP's main girl group. After all, these girls have proven in the KARA Project that they can perform the songs with the same level of exuberance as the original group did.

I also think that Somin fits the leader role a whole lot better than Youngji, so I hope they can consider this aspect if DSP indeed is preparing a new group.

 

But man, with all the DSP hate Kamilias are throwing around these days, they will need to attract fans from elsewhere, new fans that do not carry emotional baggages and will appreciate what this new group will become, if they indeed will be grouped together.

 

The highlighted part is just.... so sad.... family tearing itself apart. The victims are the trainees and new idols.

 

I agree with you that Somin looks & feels like a solid leader, and i would love to see her leading a group again in the future, but i've heard a theory that she was uncomfortable being the leader of April, and that contributed to her decision to leave. :/

This is probably needless to be said, but April, as we know, were made the models of Aqutop after Somin left

I'm not going to assume anything from this, they likely kept her just to be consistent with the fact that they showed Dream Candy in the background of their products page, or everything was done before she left the group (most likely the latter)

 

Yup you're right i think it's the latter, i first saw those images before she announced her departure

I don't think she want to be idol anymore. I'd talked about this with a friend and we think this.

 

She has opened another SNS account. So we can count:

1. Kakao Talk

2. Kakao Story (created today 160208)

3. Instagram (private/closed)

 

But why do you think that she doesn't want to be an idol anymore, based on her opening a Kakao Story account? 

 

If that's true though, i'd just be so sad like.... i can't even....

It could be a hint too but if it's true she wasn't confortable in APRIL... she was also the it girl in it (maybe sharing spotlight with Naeun). Maybe she didn't like the concept, but maybe she didn't enjoyed that lifestyle once she got it...

Honestly I don't know... 

 

Maybe.... But i really doubt it though, because we know she has debuted once before in Puretty, they had some promotions and appeared on some shows, and she competed in Kara Project which put her in front of the camera again, and she was still determined enough to join April. It doesn't look like she would be surprised by any kind of responsibility or lifestyle being an idol. 

 

She's worked so hard for so long, and she's so talented, it would be such a waste to quit now. I hope she feels the same way!

She use to look so different in each selca so I'm not worry about that... her face changes so much, always.

 

I'm not saying from baby kara to april but even her predebut selcas she look different in the same time. So many angles hahaha

But once she has to train again or something, she'll delete them all.

Or was it that once you're a trainee you have to delete/private your SNS accounts....idr.

Trainees have to delete their personal SNS accounts or put them to private a short while before debuting, usually just before a debut announcement is made by their company. She's definitely training right now, if i think i know her right 

 

Totally agree. I think she knows as much as anyone that she's so close to making her dream come true, giving up now would be the biggest waste ever.
