Should the reputation system be updated/removed?

It kind of does matter because people perceive you to be a troll if you have a negged post and I'm sure it prevents people from posting something interesting because they're afraid of hurting their reputation score. But idk maybe I'm the close minded one here.

Hmm, that's understandable. But I still think the whole reputation mechanic encourages a certain kind of post and discourages everything else. We can compare OH to other big forums for instance, like ATRL. ATRL has entertaining threads all the time and you rarely ever see shitposts like "idc" (and why a post isn't getting negged is beyond me, even Reddit would correct that sort of behavior):

Not that OH threads are awfully boring but there is a very noticeable lack of variety and herd mentality here, and it doesn't have to be this way.

Maybe not all of us are that confident to tank unpopular opinnions, the system should aloud other people to express what they think in a confortable enviroment; right now people who enters the site as new users are bombarded left and right with negativity and end leaving in seconds

I do share my controversial opinions, but I'm sure most people that want to stay long term don't because they care about their reputation score. You can't blame the OH community for caring about their reputation score, you should be blaming the admins for its poor design.

I don't think so. No reputation means no worries for whatever you post. If you're actually trolling, you can still be moderated on. Is this what people go on this site for? to maintain their reputation score? I thought people joined forums to read and contribute to interesting discussion.

If anything mods are even more strict with stuff now tbh which is prolly why this forum is actaully dying even more since threads with controversial opinions aren't even allowed or locked after a heated argument lol

Also this forum isn’t dead because of the rep system it’s dead because it’s broken. This site had way more traffic when the previous bashing thread still had the upvote system. So like.
