[NEWS] 150515 Film Movement buys ‘Haemoo’

 

  The New York-based film distributor has picked up North American rights to Shim Sung-Bo’s South Korean thriller Haemoo from Finecut in Cannes.

 

Shim co-wrote the film with Bong Joon-Ho, who also produced the thriller about a group of fisherman driven to madness when their attempt to smuggle illegal Chinese-Korean immigrants goes horribly wrong.

 

Haemoo premiered at Toronto last year and will screen at New Directors/New Films. The film will open in early 2016.

[NEWS] 150518 ‘The Girl Who Sees Smells’ Park Yoo-chun Engages in Filming All Night

 

 

 

With only two episodes that remain until the end, new stills of actor Park Yoo-chun were revealed.

 

SBS’s Wednesday-Thursday television series ‘The Girl Who Sees Smells’ dropped the stills of Park Yoo-chun taken during the shooting. In the stills, he is wearing a white knit top and black pants, standing and leaning on a beautiful bridge.

 

There are only two episodes left. Despite his hectic filming schedule, Park Yoo-chun is said to have taken part in the shooting with passion. “He is putting all his efforts into making the best outcome possible. He hasn’t complained once ever since the camera started rolling. You can look forward to detective Choi Moo-gak(played by Park Yoo-chun)’s performance to solve the case,†said one of the staffs from the production team.

 

Meanwhile, the previous 14th episode that aired on May 14 showed Choi Moo-gak finding a secret place of Kwon Jae-hee(played by Namgoong Min) with help from Oh Cho-rim(played by Shin Se-kyung). Due to heavy rain, Cho-rim had difficulty seeing the smell, but Moo-gak found a clue from a painting he saw at a café. He used night soil to have Jae-hee’s smell clearly visible.

 

Thanks to Moo-gak’s witty idea, Cho-rim could once again sense the scent of his footprints left in the tracks and could save Yeom-mi safe and sound.

 

The viewers felt empathy for Moo-gak as he pointed a gun at Jae-hee, who kidnapped and killed his sister, tried to kill his beloved next and even made him become a detective. Will Moo-gak be able to put handcuffs on Jae-hee’s hands? Find out the rest of the story in the upcoming episode of ‘The Girl Who Sees Smells’. Only two episodes remain. The 15th episode will air on Wednesday, May 20 at 22:00(KST).

Grab hold of Park Yuchun to attack the Asian movie market.

 

Through the movie, Haemoo (directed by Shim Sungbo), Park Yuchun swept newcomer awards in film festivals and the movie industry has a high interest towards Park Yuchun who had a powerful big screen debut. Yuchun’s power reaches beyond South Korea far into France, Europe.

 

In the midst of the 68th Cannes International Film Festival in full swing, there is a film which calls forth fierce competition amongst buyers in Asia to fight for the distribution rights of the movie and it is none other than ‘Lucid Dream’ (directed by Kim Junsung) which investment and distribution rights are undertaken by NEW’s subsidiary, Contents Panda.

 

‘Lucid Dream’ is a phenomenon whereby a person is aware that he/she is dreaming. Directed by rookie Director Kim Junsung, the movie ‘Lucid Dream’ is about Daeho (played by Go Soo) whose son was kidnapped 3 years ago and with help from an assistant in his dream, he is able to search for clues of the crime and that is how the story takes place.

 

The reason why ‘Lucid Dream’ is receiving attention is none other than Park Yuchun. As it is the next project of Park Yuchun who became well-known through his powerful screen debut through ‘Haemoo’, there are unceasing visits to Contents Panda’s booth at the Cannes Film Market. There are continuous inquiries about the purchase of distribution rights for the movie.

 

An official from Contents Panda told Newsen, “Of course, ‘Lucid Dream’ is receiving attention because of its fresh content about lucid dream but also because it’s the next project of Park Yuchun who is well-known across Asia. Although we are in the process of filming, there have been continuous inquiries about the movie especially when the news that Park Yuchun is casted was conveyed, we started receiving attention from Asian buyers. The content about lucid dream appeals to the European buyers while in Asia, the awareness of the name of Park Yuchun itself heightens the atmosphere. There is a significant difference in response before and after the casting of Park Yuchun was made known.â€

 

North American and European buyers place an emphasis on South Korea’s distinctive movie material and specific genre. There is yet to be a huge tendency for those buyers to rely on the awareness of a Hallyu star’s name in Asia. In the midst of all these, there is an accumulation of expectations of where the winds of the Hallyu Wave will be blowing in the film industry where Park Yuchun is constructing a strong Hallyu foothold through his brisk activities.

 

Meanwhile, the movie with rising expectations, ‘Lucid Dream’ starring Park Yuchun, Go Soo, Sol Kyunggu, Kang Hyejung, Park Inhwan, Jeon Hojin and other A-list South Korean actors is scheduled to be released in the second half of 2015.

I have to pour out my soul somewhere because I still can't get over his perfection today.

 

I always admire people who may get tons of hatred or get criticised for their life choices but end up victorious not in words, but in actions. It's like... yeah, laugh, hate, bash, I don't care... I'll have the last laugh.

 

Yoochun hasn't experienced a lot of hatred, thank God. And that's because he's humble, so he doesn't give the general public the excuse to hate on him. Only bitter stans hate and bash him, or braindead netizens who think it's a crime to smoke while having asthma.

 

He got some backlash when he started acting and throughout his acting career, but nothing serious. If you consider what he did, I seriously can't think of any other idol-turned-actor that only got leading roles and a shitload of awards for all his works, from all stations. Even old idols like Eric who aren't bashed for being actors nowadays didn't start with leading roles (I remember Eric's first role, it was a supporting one). 

 

And then you have Sea Fog. A movie he was advised against, for obvious reasons. It wasn't what people or his own fans were used to. He would tarnish his idol image and lose plenty of other works like the CFs he used to do. I can understand everyone's arguments against it, it was a huge risk. But this guy... he believes in himself and his choices. He went ahead and did it. He put on loads of weight for the role and many people ridiculed him for it. And here he comes today, as if he took a trip to the past, looking glorious and magnificent at the spot of a winner, a person who broke records, being the first actor ever winning the newcomer award 9 times, from all awards, from everyone that matters. Is there anything else that screams "fuck you" to haters louder than this...

 

I'm not proud because he got the awards, those are just confirmation that his work is recognised. I'm proud and happy because he believed in himself and worked hard to pull it off, sacrificing many things in the process someone else would not have sacrificed.

 

Yoochun, you gave up so much to be where you are now. I have to pour out my soul somewhere because I still can't get over his perfection today.

 

I always admire people who may get tons of hatred or get criticised for their life choices but end up victorious not in words, but in actions. It's like... yeah, laugh, hate, bash, I don't care... I'll have the last laugh.

 

Yoochun hasn't experienced a lot of hatred, thank God. And that's because he's humble, so he doesn't give the general public the excuse to hate on him. Only bitter stans hate and bash him, or braindead netizens who think it's a crime to smoke while having asthma.

 

He got some backlash when he started acting and throughout his acting career, but nothing serious. If you consider what he did, I seriously can't think of any other idol-turned-actor that only got leading roles and a shitload of awards for all his works, from all stations. Even old idols like Eric who aren't bashed for being actors nowadays didn't start with leading roles (I remember Eric's first role, it was a supporting one). 

 

And then you have Sea Fog. A movie he was advised against, for obvious reasons. It wasn't what people or his own fans were used to. He would tarnish his idol image and lose plenty of other works like the CFs he used to do. I can understand everyone's arguments against it, it was a huge risk. But this guy... he believes in himself and his choices. He went ahead and did it. He put on loads of weight for the role and many people ridiculed him for it. And here he comes today, as if he took a trip to the past, looking glorious and magnificent at the spot of a winner, a person who broke records, being the first actor ever winning the newcomer award 9 times, from all awards, from everyone that matters. Is there anything else that screams "fuck you" to haters louder than this...

 

I'm not proud because he got the awards, those are just confirmation that his work is recognised. I'm proud and happy because he believed in himself and worked hard to pull it off, sacrificing many things in the process someone else would not have sacrificed.

 

Yoochun, you gave up so much to be where you are now.
