Paved the way

I agree. Like you wouldn't say that "Newton paved the way for mathematicians!", in fact it's as he put it himself: a continuous process where everyone contributes a bit.

But idk who paved the way for my faves?

BEG: idk, maybe some RnB groups

T-ara: WG, SNSD maybe? Maybe Davichi/SeeYa since they are from the same company

SHE: Probably previous generations of Taiwanese celebrities

Momoclo: AKB basically brought in the idol boom of the late 2000s themselves, so without them the industry Momoclo operated in might have been a lot smaller.

Perfume: Nakata? imstupid.png

Who did they pave the way for?

T-ara and Momoclo were both inspirations for Crayon Pop? And then there are the junior groups from their companies.

Perfume... Kyary Pampyu Pamyu/Nakata maybe. imstupid.png

But for other subjects you would say stuff like that

Like everyone calls Alan Turing the father of modern day computing

So you could say his thought processes paved the way for how everyone else thinks in the field further on

There are some people who have contributed immensely (Leonhard Euler for instance) or created whole new fields of research, without whose discoveries might not have been made for several centuries if not for them. So they are rightfully celebrated for their work, that others now expand upon.

My main issue here is how the "paving the way" thinking is too simplistic and used to put down other groups. In reality all these groups, as well as other visible parts of Korean culture like dramas and gaming, all contribute to the strength of the Korean Wave (aka Hallyu).

Apart from that I'm also unsure if there's any inherent merit that comes from being popular, and if that has to be celebrated. But that's another topic.
