Article[Official] "First Korean artist" BLACKPINK to guest on America's highest viewer rating show 'The Late Show'

Source: Sports Chosun via Nate

1. [+108, -7] This is such a YG style media play

2. [+100, -7] Would be nice if YG would modernize their media play style

3. [+88, -15] ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ Even BTS stayed humble and barely put out any articles about going to the Grammys, it's hilarious to see a group that doesn't even come close to their esteem exaggerate their media play like this ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹ whenever they accomplish anything, they always drag BTS into their titles like 'MV hit 100 million views faster than BTS!!' (and yet BTS has over 10 MVs with over 500 million views). YG is so petty with how pathetic they are over BTS, tsk tsk.

4. [+17, -2] Well BTS is the first Korean group to present at the Grammys ã…¡ã…¡

5. [+12, -5] All of BLACKPINK's songs suck except for 'Playing with Fire'

6. [+10, -5] What about them though...? I don't know much about idols but I don't think I've ever seen this group hitting records in the news like BTS. Are they popular in America?

7. [+7, -8] They're the second most popular Korean idol group after BTS

3. [+63, -8] Yang CEO-nim --- put out a full album for them~~~~ please

4. [+56, -9] Fighting to our Black Pinkies, I'll be supporting you

5. [+48, -8] Can't wait, congratulations on your American debut BLACKPINK â¤ï¸â¤ï¸

6. [+18, -7] I think BLACKPINK will do fine in the western market because they're good at both singing and performance, congrats congrats

7. [+14, -4] Surprised at how the American schedules are coming in faster than I thought! Let's do well, Black Pink!!

8. [+13 -3] Fighting to our BLACKPINK ♡

I don't think those Nate commenter know what they're talking about. Especially since in America pop girls have a tendency to go more mainstream easily? Like what BTS is doing is super amazing but I don't think they understand that BTS got to where they are now because of the immense fan driven movements that caused it. They need to realize this is not the sole way to gain success in the US (as a matter of fact, BTS's rise in the US is a bit more unorthodox, but this is also why despite garnering themselves a massive fandom for the past couple of years after their Bbmas debut appearance, the GP still doesn't have a massive awareness of them and especially their music or the members. I won't be surprised if many celebs who claim to love BTS in the US will be unable to even name any members or songs. Their US success is just so unorthodox its really hard to categorize it, but no one can deny how massive they are either - just that people outside their big big fandom barely know anything aside from them being called BTS and them being Korean/Asian. It's really a special case though BTS will be unbeatable once they finally get a genuine US hit - Fake Love was close, I hope they get it next time. )

Blackpink seem like they will succeed in the US, but will take a different success path from BTS. 3/4 of them speak English so they will instantly be relatable and communicative in all their TV promos. Plus in an era where girl power is on the front stage, their fierce girl aesthetic and high fashion will click so much. Kfans need to realize a lot of the recent BTS US growth the past 2 years was also caused by their US TV appearances (how many new ARMYs claim they were baited by NYRE, Corden, Ellen or Fallon?) and Blackpink is doing no different, but are just doing it at a different time in their careers. As a matter of fact their US push is just as good as BTS because Coachella, GMA and Colbert for a US debut press round is nothing to scoff at in terms of exposure especially to the GP.

Just saying comparing them to BTS doesn't make much sense because their trajectories are different, but also hope those commenters keep in mind there's no one fixed lane to succeed in the US. It is too hasty to put down Blackpink at this point, why don't people just sit down and watch what will happen first before making projections.

female pop artists are dead in America. The only one is Ariana currently unless Taylor recovers from Reputation or you want to count female rappers...

BTS is doing well for boy groups. I don't think an average American could name a single One Direction song even in their prime lol. And most only knew Harry Styles.

I think that was my point. BTS is massive and their sales/selling power blows most of US/westerns popstars right now out of the water but 1D at their peak where literally everywhere in Western mainstream media (there was a reason why people complained a lot about their overexposure esp non fans) . Like you said, everyone could at least single out Harry Styles. Also I never went through a 1D phase but even I knew that "What Makes You Beautiful" song because it was playing everywhere (like people may not know the title, but they almost certainly could recognize the song when it played)

There is no way I am undermining BTS success because they're certainly the top global boygroup right now. I am just implying they got to this point in a very non traditional way than pop culture is used to, and their brand of success is a special type of its own (which is why analysts have a hard time understanding the BTS phenomenon).

I am making a point that there are multiple roads to success, not just one. BTS's and Blackpink's path and direction are different, so there is no use comparing apples and oranges.

They really had to lie to drag them, huh?

Literally where does it say BTS? Sometimes YG mediaplay is questionable but this is not even one of these times. How else are you supposed to report that Blackpink is performing at The Late Show?

But but but BTS .. okay andddddd? For a group with so much success their fans sure are insecure but I’m not shocked because a lot of Army’s are obsessed with Blackpink.
