Evils are always lesser in numbers compared to good players but they know who their team mates are. The goods don't know who are in their team. Gameplay is divided into 2 phases. In the day phase the goods vote for who they think is evil and in the night phase the evils will kill a good player. So the goods win if they eliminate all the evil players. The evils win if they become higher or equal in numbers to goods. Neutral play for themselves and are given a unique winning condition e.g. the jester needs to be lynched during day phase to win, etc. Some goods have powers like investigating the affiliation of a player (whether they are good, evil or neutral) or protecting another a player at night, etc. Evils and neutrals can have powers too.
