Aladdin has south asian elements, as gross as it (the orientalist) is, there shouldn't be a problem with them getting representation) Aladdin is a gross orientalist film, they mashed south asian and arab culture together, used nasty stereotypes and threw it in a animated film. If it was really based on the story, Aladdin should be a Chinese muslim but i guess having non-arabs as muslims is a hard concept to understand in hollywood, and you can't have snake charmers and people threatening to cut off hands and shit with Chinese Muslims so there's that Aladdin is beyond saving, and....It's Disney so expecting tack and cultural sensitivity is a L all in itself Arab representation will really only come all with Arab directors and writers like CRA and BP, and i wouldn't call that "luck" either.
