Fans are petitioning for Maroon 5 to perform the song "Sweet Victory" from "Spongebob Squarepants" at Sunday's Super Bowl halftime show.
The song is from an iconic "Spongebob" scene in which the titular character belts out a power ballad during the show's equivalent of the Super Bowl.
Although Maroon 5's representatives haven't commented on the petition, the band recently tweeted a promotional video for the performance that features Spongebob for a few seconds.
The Super Bowl will air Sunday, February 3 on CBS.

Stephen Hillenburg, who created the animated sponge, died in November. Ever since, fans have been urging Super Bowl organizers and halftime entertainers Maroon 5 to honor Hillenburg's character at the upcoming game.

A Change.org online petition asking that the SpongeBob song Sweet Victory be performed at the halftime show has earned more than 1.1 million signatures as of this writing. Why this song? In the season 2 episode where it appears, SpongeBob performs the song with a marching band at the Bubble Bowl, his universe's equivalent of the Super Bowl. He really belts it out, too, true power-ballad style.

A representative for Maroon 5 did not immediately respond to a request for comment. But on Jan. 13, the band tweeted out a Super Bowl-themed hype video, and SpongeBob makes an appearance.

Signed it. And I hope it happens. It's one of the most iconic Spongebob episodes ever.

SpongeBob SquarePants" fans have been persistent in their quest to have the NFL honor the show's late creator, Stephen Hillenburg, at Super Bowl LIII - and it appears they just might get their wish.

Rodger Bumpass, who voices the character Squidward Tentacles, reportedly confirmed on his Facebook page that he'll be introducing the halftime entertainment.

The Super Bowl is in 6 days, there's no need to sign a petition. The show and setlist is locked in at this point. Spongebob is pretty much confirmed from a video they posted on Twitter a few weeks ago.

Maroon 5 are a terrible choice btw. NFL need to get someone like P!nk, Jennifer Lopez or Rihanna (although, I doubt she would do it).
