No one knows of your countenance,
Only that [you are emotionally] cold down to the marrow of [your] bones.
[Those] tender eyes [of yours] underneath your veil
Have seen through a lifetime['s worth] of human nature and worldly matters[1].

[Though it] would seem that [you] have had no one to keep [you] company throughout your life,
[You] had in fact set down a stele long ago.
[Your] pale hands dance in the air, braiding new tassels,
But [you] don’t know the location of the sword [those tassels are for].

[it] was him who sang "High Mountains And Running Water"[2] for you.
Why, then, did you bother [living] a life without regrets because of him?
Cycling through birth and death tens of thousands of times, [this is] yet another lifetime where [you are] not destined [to be together].
He has become your eternal preordained calamity[3].

Do not shed any more tears [and] ruin your proud and aloof brows.
Let go of this relationship [and] start again [with a] new cycle of reincarnation.
You should not become drunk because of him; commoners do not know of your haggardness.
[it] is only another lifetime of cycling through birth and death.

T/N:

[1] 人情故 is abbreviated from the idiom 人情世故, which refers to an understanding of how to conduct oneself in dealing with other people and with events that take place in this world.

[2] 高山æµæ°´ is one of the most famous ancient songs of China, written for guqin. It relates to the story of Bo Ya, a guqin master, and Zhong Ziqi, a woodcutter. Bo Ya was playing this song in the wilderness on a mountainside when Zhong Ziqi came across him. Zhong Ziqi understood exactly what Bo Ya was expressing with his music and so they became fast friends. After Zhong Ziqi's death, it was said that Bo Ya never played again. As such, referencing this song also borrows from the fact that it serves as a metaphor for a valuable and intimate friend who knows you very well.

[3] 劫 here refers to 劫数, a term that has Buddhist origins and has evolved to refer to a preordained and inescapable adversity that is so great it threatens one's life.
