isn't it weird when the same actor/actress shows up as another character in the same show?

like right now i'm watching this show that had a really long run, almost a decade. in the later seasons, there's a pretty iconic antagonist who becomes central to the story and the main character's arc.

 

anyway i'm rewatching the earlier seasons and just realised THE SAME ACTRESS appears TWICE - in the early seasons, she's in 2 episodes, and it's not a minor role either (but definitely not as big as the later one). so there's like 6 seasons between those episodes, and those where she reappears as a completely different character but still??????? it's so odd???????? how did the show runners rationalise this decision, she's not a completely unknown actress either, like you do recognise her face pretty immediately...

 

i'm sure this happens a lot in tv shows tho, we just don't always take note like this...

i know!!! it's so bizarre, i actually had to go to imdb just to check whether it was part of the antagonist's background story somehow and i just missed it, but nope they really are two different characters...

I always feel this way when they use the same actress/actor to play the father mother when they were young

what's weirder for me is when I see the same character that played the villain one more drama is now a good character in another

Movies too. Michael Parks as Texas ranger McGraw and Estaban Vihaio in the Kill Bill films and John Rhys-Davies as Gimli and Treebeard in LOTR.

They did that with the Sopranos and GoT. The previous parts were minor so it wasn't jarring but it is weird rewatching old scenes when they played different characters.

 

I guess they just liked the actors more than they expected and decided to reuse them in more prominent roles.

I remember in Can You Hear My Heart (a 30 episode drama), actress Kim Yeojin plays two different characters in different eras. One was the lead female character's mother who died near the beginning, and the other that appears later was acknowledged as having strong resemblance to the former. They even had the same name.
