People think we are a bunch of weebs lol (I study Japanese language, literature and civilization)

Okay come on this is true for the most part. Literally every young person i know taking Japanese is a weeb lmao

And for my major they just think it's useless lmao what ever

well over the years it's shifted a lot, but i've gotten: vapid socialite wannabe/stick-up-her-ass a-type overly competitive bitch personality/couldn't hack it in "pure" applied sciences programs/only care about money/only care about status/blablablabla...

whenever my major's been mentioned

Nurses wanted to be doctors but failed.

Literaly no one I know is a nurse but wanted to be a doctor, and people love to shit and downplay us for some reason....

I hate to say it but I think a large part of this is because nurses are predominantly women. And there's a lot of fetishistic shit about nurses out there anyway... similarly with flight attendants; like they're just pretty girls prancing around in their uniform. Um... no lol.

I-

I'm a curious and open minded individual seeking for knowledge about a very beautiful sounding and looking language datassplz.png

tho it's true the inner weeb in me was happy of my decision

But tbh learning it helped me sharpen and train my memorization skills and learning about a different culture more in depth helped shattering stereotypes.

There's indeed a lot of people coming in here because they liked animes etc but usually their are the first to give up or drop out mid-semester, studying something excepting you'll be able to master it because you know some words you heard on shows kinds of reflects badly  on your learning

The funny part is that our uniforms are so different from those sexy halloween costumes.

And yes, it might be it. I also think it's because people are used to consider doctors as the main reason why people get cured from their diseases to realize that they actually are faaaaaaaaaar from working alone in hospitals.

I'm not saying doctors don't work a lot, I'm saying they don't work alone, yet people downplay other workers in the hospitals when everyone is necessary.

no i'm not saying that either but there's a bad stereotype of doctors being egomaniacs or having god complexes yknow. and other people shouldn't buy into that and downgrade other workers.

I did double major, because of maths I got a lot 'you're pretty... for sb studying it', 'oh wow, i didn't know people from maths like going out' and some guys thought 'i must be so smart' but then they sort of distanced themselves.

So basically maths = smart but no fun & ugly. It's such an old cliche, i'm suprised it's not dead by now.

Nah you're right though! Tbh someone who really wants to learn the language, culture, and history at a deeper level is way different from delusional weebs stuck in fantasy land taking it thinking they're gunna land some Japanese waifu haha. So mad respect. I enjoy cultural and language studies so I get where you're coming from! And it does help with memory and opens you up to other ways of thinking!

And that doesn't surprise me they drop haha they were delulu in the first place and prob didn't think it would be as challenging as it is.
