Your Country vs South Korean Awards Shows?

I haven't watched British awards shows for years, but last night I saw some our "National Television Awards". Bearing in the mind I watched the whole of MAMA 2018 from Hong Kong last month, the contrast was quite amazing. The Korean shows are so much more controlled and careful. I'd forgotten just how slightly weird our awards can be. They're quite chaotic in comparison. Perfectly normal for us. (I'd be the same after a few drinks!)

I've also noticed that my mind has adjusted so much to the whole "scandal" thing in Koran culture. Even the smallest thing seems to send everyone into a tailspin. Last night one of the winners (for the 18th consecutive year!) was a very successful TV duo called Ant and Dec. Yet last year Ant was convicted of drink driving after

in the middle of day with his mother onboard! He was banned for driving for 20 months and fined £86,000 (about US$112,000). He's been in rehab and hasn't even been on TV since and still wins!! And everyone here is going "Aw... nice to see him getting better". My head hurts thinking how that would go down in Korea...

Anyway, what are your country's awards shows like compared to South Korea?

I haven't really watched any American award shows in years- I think the last time was when Kayne West went up and interrupted Taylor Swifts during her VMA speech. I feel like there is more to do around American film/television award shows (the emmy's, oscars, golden globes, and sag) than our music awards. People get way more pressed about them than any of the music awards.

In my country Argentina the main awards are the tv awards.

Martin Fierro is the Baeksang but argentinian tv is trash.

Respect to music the main award is Premios Gardel. The criteria award is sales + music critics so fan votes no exist.

The most near to fan votes is include streaming in sales criteria.

For me Premios Gardel is boring and argentinian rock biased when argentinian rock is over and not trendy since my king Gustavo Cerati dead.

The last Premios Gardel (called in honor to Tango legend Carlos Gardel) was a polemic towards Gardel De Oro winner.

The nominees were argentinian rock legend Charly Garcia, rising trap star Duki and Luciano Pereyra the hottest romantic folk singer of Argentina with record sales of physicals and ticket show sales.

The critics prefered gave awards to Charly Garcia (he is a legend but his last album was trash). Duki or Luciano were the best seller.

But sometimes the critics have their own criteria different of sales and the trendy.

I don't really watch British awards shows and only watch the Korean ones when my faves are on it so I don't know how it compares. I would compare NTA more with Korean Drama awards shows but I've never watched one.

People talk about grammy, ama and billboard all the time tho? Like last year drake , childish gambino and so on. It just not a nation event cause america is big and the market isn't saturated. The only nation event is probably the superbowl.

idk from my experience I've literally never heard people talk about ama or billboard, grammy a little bit but the last time I really heard about it was like 3 years ago lmao, maybe ppl in my area just don't care

I hear about oscars and golden globes a lot tho, my parents don't really care much for tv and they even tuned for a while

but ya superbowl is the biggest thing

I feel like the only time I ever hear about the AMA and billboard is on kpop sites tho? Like not really on mainstream media... Whereas like oscar and Emmy nominations are usually broadcast on GMA.
